I couldn't begin to understand all the technical knowledge and prowess that is required to even talk about music with you (or doc). So screw all that....this cut is beyond juicy, it's SALIVATIN'.....so clean...yeah, that's it, CLEAN....every sound is in its proper nest....despite this version being MP3 format.....so good....gibs

Alright!!! Finally have started a mixdown gig for my new client after my week from hell trying to get the computer to record 24 bit files properly.

Anyway, this is about 2 1/2 mins. of a song we are almost done mixing. Spent about 5 hours so far on the mix, and about 1 hour of that was trying to chase down some elusive snare drum sound the client wanted. He just wound up wanting what was there.... :)
. 2.44MB 128kbs MP3 file. The mp3 was encoded at 128kbs because I didn't want to spend all damn morning uploading it. So, some of the depth is gone, but it still sounds pretty decent at 128. I will be finishing the mix today and will upload a full version of the mix at 192kbs, but, if you choose to go back and download that one, be prepared, it is 6.75MB!!!

Anyway, just a short history about the tracking, which I didn't do, but was done by a producer I work with all the time. All was recorded on ADAT XT-20's using ART and TL Audio mic pre's. There was a bunch of different mic's used, but mostly it was SM-57's, AT 4033's, RE 27 n/d, C-1000 S, Tascam PE 125, and a few others. Like I say, I didn't track it so am not sure about all the tracking production.

All was mixed to my computer using my new Lynx One card. I am using a recording program Lynx sent me to test the card. The application is so simple, you just pick a sampling rate, a bit depth, and where to record the file to. Then you just see the input meters and transport controls. So simple. I am using this program to record now because of the very low overhead on the system. I don't really need anything more then it provides to record mixes, so why not? :D

Anyway, I didn't do any mastering except to convert the bit depth and sampling rate from 24/48 to 16/44.1 so I could encode the mp3.

Enjoy.

Great groove! and, as always, excellent sound quality, Ed!
Nice job!

I first checked this out on my SB128/Altec 295 system at work. Like the guy sez. It's juicy. But man oh man. I can see having a long extended harangue session with the artist over that snare drum. He parked his ass on that 2nd and 4th beat, and hit it repeatedly like he was trying to kill a large rat dancing around on the skin and (almost) refused to move. Pere Ubu did a piece that was exactly like that minus any other instruments or voices. The really tasty part started when he gave it a rest and the bass and synth/sax did that unison line. Looking forward to the full version. Now that I'm home in my studio and listening through the monitors the mix sounds very similar. Sign of a good mix.
The obnoxious snare remains....
