Been busy lately and have not spent any time recording. But over the weekend I managed to record this cover. Dont know why I try and sing a JP tune. But it was fun. I did my own take on it, so its not a note for note cover. And I left out the siren. :) Let me have it over the mixing and overall sound. Here is a soundclick link to a 128mp3 version, and the attched file below is a 320mp3 version. MP3 Player SoundClick Enjoy

Haha, pretty cool. Seems a little light in the bottom end to me.

It may be light. Im working in a sub-woofer into my monitor set up and its been a learning experience :) Been driving me nuts actually, but I'll get it worked out. Thanks for the listen, bro !! Been a while since Ive been on here.

Why would you want a sub woofer? You getting into rap and dance music?

It sounds like you're covering a cover of breaking the law originally covered by weird AL yankovic. The guitars sit real hi in the mix and need to come down some to even things out. And the bass could be a little louder. Bitching guitar solo :P

Actually Im not, but I record stuff like that for other people. So its nice to have. Its on a foot-switch, so I can turn it on and off at will. I mixed this stuff with it on. Need to mix with it off and just fire it up to check sub freq., when done mixing. Im just trying to get the feel of mixing with it on.

Gonna remix it with the sub off this time and see how it comes out. I'll tweak the guitar and bass while Im at it. Thanks

Sounds pretty cool. +1 to all the above comments.. And also, the vocals are way too loud. No offense, but I personally don't feel they're strong enough to be pushed so far out front.

When the vocal sit too far out front, it sounds like a karaoke singer on top of a backing track.

Good job man!

Here comes the solo now....

...Nice :D

Amen on the vocals. I just do it to finish the tunes. Wish I could sing :) I remixed it with the sub off, I have updated the first post to include it. I need to re figure my room. I think I have way to many 2 x 4 acoustic panels. I believe they are sucking the high's and mids too much. When I remixed everything sounds alot better, but the mids are scooped. I've always seemed to scoop them :) May be the panels. Im going to do the mirror check for panel placement. Right now the whole room is about covered. Listen to the remix and give me verify, Im right about the mids.

I like the guitar sound quite a bit, at least in my Sony earbuds. The vocals do indeed sit a bit high as others have said. And though Weird Al has never in fact released a cover of this song, since his name was mentioned in the comments I was reminded of his hard rock tune, "Young, Dumb & Ugly".

Pretty good job overall. I like the guitar sound you got here and the playing is good too. The vocals are ok, they get the job done. I would drop them down a notch or two and put a little 'wet' on them to settle them in more. I'm writing this after I left my studio, and I just noticed the second mix, so I'll check it out later.
:D

Something you related to in your younger days no doubt :P

Thanks. Dialed in the sub and remixed without it. Will use the sub just for reference and of course when required for dance or rap stuff

Better mix with the vocals and bass. Good low end, it really hits hard. Oh, I forgot to mention the chipmunk back-up singer on the chorus...was he expensive or did he work for peanuts :)

I think it could still sound fatter, the bass (guitar) under 140hz still sounds light, everything else sounds good. Listen to it next to a modern rock mix (unless you want a mid-ish sounding master, then its good.)

You could bring that up without even re-mixing.

I too like alot of bass and wrestled with raising it some. I use alot of speakers to listen to the mix and felt this was a good compromise, for this type of music. If I brought the bass up to my liking, everyone would say it was too bass heavy :) I like bass :)

Great version, Mike!
10 for the performance, about half of that for the mix: it sounds too thin, especially the guitars lack beef. The bass needs some low end and I actually thought the vocals were a little low, but I believe that's due to the way the guitars are EQed. Don't worry about the sub, I use mine to mix too. Put the original from Priest on a separate track and keep switching back and forth between it and yours, so you can compare. Once you fix this it's gonna sound great!
