Getting better
Hey all,

SamAsh.com is selling Johnson J-Stations for $199. That seems like a good deal to me, as I have no guitar amp modeler or multieffects pedal. How do they compare to POD? Are the effects usable?

Does anyone here use the J-Station?

They are fine, just more suited torwards metal then anything, in my opinion. Just search the board for posts on j-station and you'll get 1000's of results.

I've got the J-Station and my brother has the Pod.My opinion is the reverse of the previous poster.The only amp sim remotely metal on the J is the dual rectifier model. It does sound better than the Pod's rectifier voice though.
But the bulk of the amp models are meat and potatos;
50s Deluxe,65 Twin,69 Plexi,AC30 top boost,etc.The Pod actually has more amp sims,just not the ones I consider useable.
J-Station has more simultanious effects,s/pdif and analog outs,and deep level programming can be done from the front panel (not just on a pc like pod).
They are indeed similar units and pod was first on the market Listen to both and make your mind up based on your reaction to each's strong points as well as what your ears tell you.
I've been using the J with my stage rig for about 2 months now and it has taken about 40 pounds off my gear load.Yes!

Hey, thanks for the info. I will indeed listen to them.

I wanted to add my needs: I play at a Saturday night church service. Currently I use the typical pedals going into a small Crate tube amp which is miced with a -57. Is the J-Station something I would consider going direct into the mixer in this situation? The church music is rock and pop, and I like to use a variety of live sounds.

As for recording, of course I'm assuming the J-Station is a decent direct recording solution.

I will indeed try both the J-Station and the POD and decide. Any thoughts?

You can definiely go straight into the board and it will sound fine...if you need to change patches within the same song, you will have to look into one of the foot pedal controllers for it....

Both Pod and Johnson sell a propriatary pedal unit but any midi switch pedal will work changing patches or as a cc pedal controlling realtime edit of selected parameters.

Now I didnt know that Tom......they sure didnt mention that in the manual....I thought you had to use their pedal.....thanx....
