yes
i dont really like the chili peppers that much, they have a few good songs. but damn, john frusciante is fucking good. he plays everything with almost no gain most of the time, and its all so transition-less. its like ridiculous.

anyone else agree?

Yes.
He reminds me of Jimi Hendrix. I love that type of clean guitar tone and style.

i love RHCP (and i cant stand people who judge RHCP on shit off californication, by the way, stadium arcadium etc, because thats NOT real rhcp) and john's playing ALWAYS blew me away. hillel was great with them as well, but he was less feel and more straight up rock...but johnny is great. mothers milk was his first cd with them, and he had an AMAZING TONE through both strats and humbucker guitars, and it was just so good....hes so fluid in his playing and it just comes out great...i love his style, totally an influecene on me

Even if ya dont like the RHCP, and if you are a guitarist and a fan of general sonic weirdness and beauty, you owe it to yourself to chk out his solo stuff.

On a personal level, he seems like a really cool dude. Went to a dark place and came back with something to say!

Yeah,

I relate to anyone who stays away from that same ole shitty rectified sound.

He's an excellent player.

You can't forget all the work he's done with The Mars Volta either. He's played on most of their full lengths, doing about 90% of the guitar work on Amputecture.

I like a few of the peppers tunes however Im not a big fan of the guitar player...I would never say he isnt good or anything because lots of people think he is however for me the bass player of that band is more impressive.

I like the peppers earlier stuff however to me all their music sounds the same now...kind of like hearing the same song over and over.

No offence to any fans out there.

So I guess Im saying "No" I dont think hes that great...the band isnt that good live either except for bass and drums which sound good...singer isnt much of a singer either...in fact live the singer kind of sucks.

RHCP has been my favorite band since I was 3 years old. John is such an amazing player. The way he plays live blows me away.

I used to live near Ft. Lauderdale where Jack Irons lives. I knew alot of people that know him. Supposedly he's still depressed about Slovak's death.

he comes up with some great ideas and cool riffs but technically he really isnt all that good. His soloing is actually somewhat boring live from that youtube vid...

and someones like "lets see yngwie do THIS" - lol... while yngwie doesnt have soul, he could play all of johns stuff with his mouth on anesthesia...

of course soul IS whats important but jeez what a lame comparison.

I love the peppers -- but i think its their overall sound that makes them.

He's not the most technical player and he doesn't "shred" like some of the Mullet Army would like to see. He does, however, have character, and character will rock you mullet off anyday of the week.

P.S. I'd just like to make it known that Frusciante is very high on my list. I've got everything that I can get my hands on and I love every note of it.

IMO, Frusciante is all about timing and knowing his place in the music. With such an active rhythm section, it would be real easy to overplay...but instead, he sits right back in the groove and lets it breathe.

just to respond to this (even if it wasnt directed towards me) I am certainly not of the mullet army. My favourite bands are Nirvana and the beatles -- i just look at this from an objective standpoint -- and while he knows his place and he does well, hes not anything new or mindblowing. Imo....

Was not directed at anyone particular person.

I've never really warmed to their sound, and to be honest I don't really understand their widespread appeal. He's fine as a guitarist I guess...nothing about him really makes me go 'wow'. I do like that Hendrix-clean on Under the Bridge though.

It's good, pretty much what a Strat is made for. Pretty similar to Mike McCreedy's tone on Pearl Jam's 'Yellow Ledbetter'. I guess the two of them were just ripping off Hendrix!

agreed %100

true. he is a great guitarist.

As for Yellow Ledbetter... I feel it is just a simple littlewing riff with incoherent mumbling over it. Not that I dislike the song. :) I couldn't wait to learn it when I first heard it.

But rly. Mmm... to footsteps.
