I am so pissed off!

I get pretty respectable recordings out of my TASCAM 2488, with some select Great River, FMR and Lexicon outboard gear and a handful of go to mics. Yes, I am living in the age of the dinosaurs!

It's such great piece of gear and I am so dissapointed that what is probably a $2.50 jog wheel encoder, gone bad, has ruined it for me. It has slowly been going bad, and now its just about unusable.

Anyone faced this, and how did you fix it? Factory service? Local service? Do it youself?

Thanks

No help. I bought a couple of new 2488s when my MKI jog wheel finally went. The rest of it works fine. Tried contact cleaner, but to no avail - though it helped all the buttons which were sticking. I agree - very frustrating. Is there a fix anyone?

I don't think so, but I wish there was. My Jogwheel only "goes right". In other words, no matter which way I turn it, it only increases the track number, or moves things "up" in number/transport. I've learned to live with it, mostly because I only track with my 2488 now, and mix in the computer. If I had to mix with the 2488, I'd have bought a new one long ago.

Kind of a shame. Everything works great other than that. I've had to replace a few contacts for certain buttons, too. Only hardware problems.

I was reading about your problems and remembered this, if you were a bit handy with the soldering iron you may be able to make an external jog wheel.

Alan.
