I'm getting pretty confused about the differences between the Joemeek preamps....All these units have an opto-compressor and the "meekqualizer", right? so why the big difference in price between say the vc3q and vc1q? different preamps? More knobs?
I'm leaning towards a vc3q because it's the cheapest of the range...what would I gain if I saved up to buy a vc6q?

thanks

The difference

Hey, the main difference is the actual mic pre. The vc3(q) and the vc6q have a chip based mic pre, and the vc1q has a transformer based mic pre which gives it a stronger, more organic signal. I still use my vc3, and recently got the vc1q wich gives noticably more headroom. Most of this info I got from their webpage -
http://www.joemeek.com/

good luck!

You also get more precision with the controls on the vc1q with the vu meter and additional knobs.

Yup... they got it right. The VC3Q and VC6Q use the same mic preamp. The VC6Q has more control over the compressor.

The VC1Q steps up to a higher quality preamp.
