Would appreciate some help on initial settings
for the V63Q. Right now im using it with the
Neumann TLM 103. As of now I seem to get a
better sound with my Mackie 1642 mic pres with
the Dbx 166xl as my compressor.

The Manual for the V63Q is horrible. Im a little
dissappointed but Im sure Im not getting the
most out of the V6. Thanks

hi,

are you talking about the joemeek vc6q? or maybe the vc3q?

Anyhow, what do you record with the tlm103?

The mackie pres are a bit crisper, so maybe you just like the crisp sound.

give this a try and see how you like the quality.

sing about 6 inches from the tlm103. If the tlm103 does not have a low cut switch, the dip all the low eq on the vc6q. Leave the highs and mids flat.

Turn compression on with a 2:1 ratio and check levels to make sure they don't go over 0.

This will be a good starting point. It will also be beneficial If you can describe the type of sound you get with these settings.

thanks ..im gonna give it that a try..and that
was my bad it is the VC6Q..i'll let you know
how it goes..I also will be using the Mackie
1642vlz with XDR and Dbx166xl for my
A/B comparison ..any thoughts on my
other scenario? Any info would be appreciated..

how nice,

I also have a vc6q. For the record though, i can't seem to get over the pres in the 1604/1642. I just love them, and I am hoping I can get me one soon.

Messing with the settings will give you different results. Also, when you compare the vc6q and the mackie, is the tlm103 in the exact same spot. It is known that moving a mic around in a room will change its characteristics.

thanks for the info on the 1642..i was
beginning to wonder if i made a wrong
move...i have the 1202vlz but not with
the XDR pres..but it seemed that I was
getting a better sound with the 1202
than i am with the VC6. i think the
addition of the dbx 166xl helped because
i was using the noise gate to keep things
quiet.. it seems when i crank the input
on the VC6 im getting a higher noise floor..
is that making sense?...im recording into
Cakewalk 9.03 and using the Motu 2408..
i'll let u know how the A/B comparison goes
with VC6 and the 1642 w/dbx goes..thanks
for your inputs thusfar

man I agree,

the vc6q manual is not too helpful.

I like your setup. I shows that you put a lot of thought into it, and you will get really good sound.

What monitors do you have with that setup?

THe noise floor on the vc6q is supposed to be eighty decibels below the input. Also, how far do away is the sound source from the mic.

THe tlm103 is a beast of a mic, and is known to be super sensitive so if you have a computer in the same room, it will pick it up.

use only one output on the vc6q , because I have noticed that using the two outs splits the signal between the two.

Set your output gain to 0, and set the preamp stage to about 10 o clock , and see if this reduces the noise?

peace man, and I would like to know the results of your test.

Yeah keep messing with those settings and you'll get it right. The VC6Q produces a nice sound when used right, and with a nice mic like yours you should be getting a beautiful sound out of them. I think the answer you are searching for lays in the EQ of the Meek.

Cyan ..you have been right on the money about
everything so far...that really is a surprise about
the using the 1 output...i have been using both..
#2 for monitoring..

and the the TLM..im already looking to get
the Silencer power supply for my computer..
the mic is picking it up!!!!

I am using the Mackie HR824..and they are
the frigging bomb!!! fugging awesome.

thanks for all the help..still gonna let u know
about the A/B comparison..i think with ur
feedback the VC might make things harder
for the 1642 w/dbx166 set up

Thank u also Nash will let u know how things
work out..we will call it a review :)
