I'm considering an RNC to give me compression on my DBX386. The Joemeek twinQ has a built in optical compressor. Does anybody have an impression of the quality of the two compressors comparitively?-Richie

Like everyone describes:

Joemeek, more of an effect compression. More aggressive, i guess

RNC, clean, someone has even complained that it didn't work cuz the compression was so clean that he didn't notice it.

If i were to give my personal opinion on them, I think Joemeek is got that punchy/dirty sound, while RNC is a box that does it's job, compressing, and nothing else, of course I mean it in a good way.

I'm also looking into a Joe Meek (possibley SC2.2) but am waiting for more feedback from users.

Statements about the RNC are true. In "Supernice" mode, the signal goes through a 3-stage compression stage so there are minimal compression artifacts.

I have four RNC's and sometimes I chain two of them up in "Supernice" mode. Mega-nice.

Richard, if it's in the budget, they're both worth having because
they're so...different.

Well, Chess, I already have the twinQcs, and I do have very limited compression via TC Electronics M300. I also ue a DBX386, which does not offer compression. I'm currently usinf the M300 to compress the DBX a little, but the plan is to get an RNC as a dedicated compressor for the DBX, and use the M300 as an insert just for the 'verbs. Soon...-Richie
