I am looking into getting a pair of these, they are 90.00 shipped on ebay buy it now, and i will be recording a 4 piece kit with each tom miced and snare- so these would mainly be to pic up the cymbals-- would these bea good investmet for my studio?

Yes, they'd do fine. The next best thing would be a matched pair of MXL 603s, which are considered to be excellent for drum overheads. If it were me, I'd save for the 603 pair. If I remember correctly, the 603's can be had for around 150 bucks on Ebay.

Usually over heads mics are used to pic up the whole kit , not just the cymbals. You can still use seperate mics on each drum for added control.Well what i am saying is you will find it hard to just get the cymbals in those mics.

The JM27's sound pretty nice for overheads, and can compare well against other SDC's within $100 of it's price range. I have a friend who has a pair of 603's, personally I don't think they sound any better than the JM27's, when you add in PMI Audio's great customer service, the jm27s are a steal, IMO.

I agree, I picked up a pair of JM27's off Ebay for $90 as well, and I too use them for overheads. Personally, I think they sound just as good if not better than the 603s. I absolutely love them and would recommend them to anyone.

Get the Joe Meeks.............
They are my go to mics for O/H's.
I like them better than my Oktava O-12's
For less than $100 you get a matched set with shockmounts and T-Bar.
It is one of the best mic deals out there.

Got em

Kept em

Love em

Havn't had the chance to record sterio acoustic yet though.

From what I understand the 990 is a large diaphram condenser. If you get 2 it may be allright.

Allthough I do believe that you will get a better sound with pencil condensers.

not sure just giving an opinion and a bump

...BUMP :D

No, the 990 has the same capsule as the 603s. Its a medium diaphragm capsule (19mm) mounted side address. It also shares pretty much the same circuit as the 603. The grill probably gives it a slightly different sound. It's also a kin to the SPA C1, just a different housing, but a similar mic.
