Does it HAVE to be totally acoustic? I wanted to hear an electric wail in there so bad....particularly with the vocal having a sorta Greg Allman vibe...excellent tune, I guess I'm just hearing it with an extra set of electric ears or something...I liked the bongos, but it would be cool to have some drum drama in there too...your voice is good, man....has an electric feel to it...

Pay no attention to gibs...no complaints here. Sounds great.

I thought this shit is very FM ready... Just the right click on the strings... just the right EQ... Id be curious to know what mic you used on the vox... It all has a great tone... fucking nice...

Your stuff is always so "upfront" sounding, I like that. The other thing that I like about everything I've heard so far is that it's very consistent. What I mean is that the quality hasn't dipped from time to time. Have you been recording song by song, or did you record a bunch of tunes in one day? Just curious.

Thanks for the comments and taking the time to listen guys...

Gibs: sort of Greg Allman - I can dig that :)
On the acoustic thing - when I gig out live, I do mostly small clubs and coffee shops - so most of the time I want to keep the sound as "real" as possible. Also, my tunes don't make the change to electric very gracefully -at least I've never been able to make it work well.

S8-N: I use a Rode NT1 on everything - it's one of the two mics I own - I have a nice EV dynamic, but I never use it.

CMiller: I record song by song - I put this one down in my spare time over two days this past week. I have nearly everything automated (effects et all)in order to get a consistant sound. Of course, selling my soul to S8-N didn't hurt. :)

Thanks again all.

im feelin it homey lol... 3 snaps and a circle.. i seriously need to pick up a nt1 ..

Are you just teasing us...or what? Another great sounding tune. You gotta let us know when your CD is ready. I NEED one for my collection!

Good tune Jim,
I heard it on my first cup of coffee this morning and it went real well. Good way to start the day, better than Folgers.
Nice mix, good voice, good groove, good song.
Will listen to the others after work.

Very nice sound.
I thought the mix was perfect for the song.
What kind of acoustic are you using? It sounds very clear and full through the mic. The song is good too; I enjoy the minimalist sound..it really fits the color of the tune.

Great stuff as before. I've heard several requests for information on what you use for a digital converter.

Kudos, on the whole song! Do you ever listen to John Hiatt? Kind of reminds my of him. Not the voice but the style of music. I think you should keep the the "as is". Less is more type of thing.

Hi guys, and thanks for the comments.

Eddie: lol - three snaps and a circle, you leave me speechless... but in my opinion, the NT1 is the best bang for the buck. 'Cept for certain members' moms. :)

Ranger: Hope to have a CD in a few months... check on the bbs for updates - I'll make sure you get one.

bobbo: live by the java, die by the java - that's my motto. :)

dmcsilva: I used a Yamaha guitar with nearly dead strings - been to slack to change them. Freefilter really helps the guitar eq.

drstawl: I use an outboard Symetrix 620 20 bit A/D converter & dither to 16 bits for the digital input of the sblive.

Top Jimmy: "Top Jimmy, he's the king" dug that tune - :) never listened to John Hiatt although I've heard the name - and yes, I'm a die hard student of the "less is more" school -

Thanks again guys - I've got one more nearly half finished on the way - maybe by the end of the week - I'm also debating posting a kind of piano blues tune, but it's in need of some vox and guitar work as it stands now.

Very clean and in your face. Here less is definetly more. Good tune as well.

Two Thumbs up!

Great song. Strong vocals... great guitar sound. Although it works well by itself, it does yell for some more instruments... a little something to give it a "pick-me-up". Perhaps just a bass line and drums to keep it simple and pure. Please keep it away from any form of electric/electronic instrumentation. :-)

Hey Jim if you Email my your address I will mix you a tape of the best of John Hiatt and mail it to you. He has got to be one of the best singer songwriters in recent years. I'm a old 80's rocker but I really enjoy his stuff. Do you remember that song he had. "It breaks my heart to see those stars, smashing a perfectly good gutiar" Well I bought that album and got hooked. I now own six of them.

Hey Jim, nice tune man...how long ya been writing tunes? everything I've heard sounds great dude, keep on rocking!

This thread has about run its course, but I'll answer the last few replies... (gotta have the last word) :)

kbfarkas: thanks and welcome to the group, look forward to more from you.

Fishmed: I've done a remix with stronger percussion and I'm debating a bass track on everything, but I still dunno...

David: Been writing tunes for about 15 years, but really only the last 4 or 5 count - I was generally writing for whatever band or genre I was playing in until a few years back, when I decided to work on my own acoustic tunes. I've come a long way from writing songs like "Party Whore" to what I'm doing now. :)

Top Jimmy: I'll get in touch with you on the tape - thanks.

Thank you all for listening.

im only replying since the thread was on top anyway.. :)

Jim,

I finally listened to your tune. I enjoyed it very much...it's very similar to the style of music you hear guys playing around here quite a bit.

I thought your guitar sound was very nice. In fact I'm trying to get some accoustic stuff done and your tune gave me some ideas for getting a better sound.
