Jim Morrison's Mic?

Anyone who's familiar with Doors videos: what kind of mics did Jim Morrison use?

1. In the video to Wild Child...the one that was filmed in the studio :D and in other videos he appears to be using a gold-toned SM 57 style mic. And what's the deal with that humongous windscreen BELOW the mic? Is that two mics?

2. In other videos, the ones that were televised appearances, he appears to be using a mic similar in looks to the Electro Voice 635A. Anyone know what that is?

Back then, performers didn't own their own mics; we used whatever the place had. In most cases, that would have been the EV 664 or EV 666. I haven't seen the videos, but that's what happened at every Doors show I ever saw - whatever the place had - is what he used.
 
There was a whole write-up in Mix's "Classic Tracks" a few years ago on recording "The End"...the gear they used, etc. I seem to remember a placebo SM58 or whatever for Morrison to work, while a 47 or something did the job...

Morrison took a fire extinguisher and hosed down the studio after the session, board and all...

God, what a jerk....
 
In all fairness, Jim was only "a jerk" when he had too much to drink. When he was sober, he was a nice guy, very funny, articulate, and well-read.

The Doors used Acoustic Control amplifiers, which I designed. Yes, I knew Jim.
 
My mother went to school with Jim in Alexandria, VA :D atleast that's what she tells me ...lol

Harvey picks up a new fan every 7.32 minutes. Or, at least he did when I picked up my first acoustic 370...What a rig...If only I'd have kept the 301's with the C-V's in 'em...yep, jack-of-all....jack-of-all... :cool:

Not too much about my years at Fender, Morely, or IMC or my designs for the Jackson, Ross, or Charvel amplifiers, but Google covers quite a bit more if you do a search for "Harvey Gerst". The ALLMUSIC.com info is pretty incomplete and unflattering.

All in all, it's been an interesting life.
