I just wanted to post these Croce tunes I recorded tonight for fun. I jsut sat down and recorded, wasn't trying to get things perfect, just turned on the equipment any plucked these out to share with you'all. Oh, and I recorded using the AT4033 on vocals, the C1 on guitar, and the Avalon 2022 preamp, and the E-MU 1212m sound card. Disregard my breathing and other extraneous noises :p

Time In a Bottle

These Dreams

Lover's Cross

Not bad. But the vocal's are too loud. You seem to have a British accent, where as Jim was American. But you definitely have all the parts down.

Love the old Croce stuff. Great talent taken before his time. That said, I think there's too much verb on the vocal. And when the guitar comes to a bit more intricate part your tempo slows down noticably.

Wow! Your guitar sounds absolutely gorgeous. I'm not familliar with Jim Croce at all, but I love your fingerstyle nonetheless. I agree about the verb. Nice verb - just too loud.

I agree, the reverb is a bit much. Next session I will adjust that. I was just screwing around. I used my Taylor 414 guitar.

Listened to them all. Very nice, Rick. I liked New York's Not My Home the most. The range and melodic figures seem to fit your voice. The vocal flourish on "home" in the chorus is really well done... it's tough to articulate vowels in quick figures like that. The guitar's sweet and clear with those big rich low notes. Do you use fingerpicks? Sounds really good. This piece sounds like you perform it a lot.

Agree about the reverb. IMO, the less the better but, hey, don't we all do that... put too much in at first and then repent and take a lot of it out the next day? I know I do. Maybe reverb's the 8th deadly sin. :D

You know, you might consider adding a countermelody done on the acoustic. I always thought the guitarist who played acoustic lead with Croce was one of the best ever at that. Even just a simple line here and there adds a lot, I think.

Nice work. Great way to wrap up my day.

Yes,as a matter of fact I am using finger picks. I started using them again recently, so I fumble a bit with them, but it sure makes a nice acoustic sound. I use four of the metal finger picks so it is balanced on all strings. I used to play out alot, but not as much these days, however I practice more now and recording is fun.

Good stuff, Rick. There's a few parts in almost all of the songs that I play differently but only very slight differences.

Great tribute.

Good stuff! I love Jim Croce, and you did these songs very nicely. Great guitar sound, and you've got a really warm, pleasant voice... works really well for these covers. I would agree that the vox are a little wet, but I think we all do that when processing our own vox because our own voice on playback sounds so weird to ourselves. Nice work - thx for sharing.

:)

Do you think theere is too much reverb on all the songs? Time In a Bottle, I know, was way too wet on reverb, but the other songs had alot less. Do you think the last three songs had too much?
