Hi all,

I've had my mind set on a set of YSM1p's for a while because of all the great reviews on them, but I've also heard great things on the LSR 25P's also (but they are more expensive)...

However, Guitar Center is having a "big sale" tomorrow (but I guess I'll find out when I get there just how great it is ;)) and on the last sale on Memorial Day, they had these monitors very cheap but unfortunately I didn't have the cash for them at the time. :(

So I'm gonna go down tomorrow and see if they're on sale again and I was wondering if they are better than the YSM1p's? Even if these are on sale I don't mind saving up for the Yorkies (unless they are REALLY cheap ;)), because I've lived this long without them,so I don't mind holding out for quality. But if they are just as good (or better) then I'm gonna snag them up if the price is right! :)

I did a search for them on here, but the only thread I found actually asking about comparing both speakers, Gidge was the only one who replied and he said he had never heard the YSM1p's... So is there anyone who has anyone tried both monitors and can give a recommendation?

Thanks, :)

Oh and one more thing...

Hey Gidge, what's the best price that you know of for both sets of monitors? Just so I know how much I should actually spend down there!

Thanks,

Well they weren't that cheap, so I didn't get them... :(

But I was one of the first 20 in the door (#18, just barely made it! :D) so I got Berklee's Carrer Fuel for free, then I went to get a snare drum head (because I cracked mine a few days ago), and they didn't have the one I wanted, so he gave me 3 heads for the price of one. Then I got a Sabian AA splash cymbal for $55... and I'm gonna go back at 10:00 for their guitar give away drawing to see if I win! :D

Not a bad day overall, but I was sure hopin' for them monitors. :(

I used to own LSR25Ps at the time I thought they were decent enough, but still the low mid was too muddy, ever since I upgraded to Klein+Hummel O-198, nothing in the $3000 - $4000 price range makes me go wow like the K+H did. Your best bet is finding a local store and listening to both pairs, but with LSR25P later own you can add their sub and have a decent monitoring system. If you can wait then save up for something better like Dynaudio BM6, Adam P-11.

Cheers

Thanks Rubo!

I don't think I can wait long enough to get the Dynaudio's (but I will have them one day!), even $400-$500 is really gonna be pushing it (and will probably take me a while to save up for) as I'm paying for college classes, books, car insurance, gas... and on and on... Stupid real world!! :D

I just need to get something other than my Aiwa CD-Player speakers, so they don't have to be 'fantastic' monitors, but I would have been willing to hold out longer for the YSM1p's if they were better than the LSR25's (had they actually been on sale at a good price  ).

So I guess it looks like I'm back to saving up for the Yorkies! :)

Thanks again,

damn, Im WAY late on this one.....

I went with a pair of ProtoJ's and a Hafler TA1100 amp.....it hit me for about $350 together.........

if I had to do it right now again, I think Id go with the Event TR5N's......both the YSM1P's and the LSR25P's are excellent, but Im not gonna spend over $400 (Yorkvilles) or $500(JBL's)....they are worth their prices respectively, but I have other areas in my sound I need to address.......

the TR5N's regularly sell everywhere for $299 pair, but some arm twisting could probably get the price down a few dollars, or at least get some good speaker cables thrown in for free........

Hey Gidge,
I think my speakers are the main weak link in my sound chain right now, and I don't mind savin' up for them (it just takes a while  ). I think I'll probably save up for the Yorkies, because I've heard so many great things about them...

What is the cheapest price that you know of for the Yorkies? The cheapest I know if is $445, at http://www.gear1music.com/yorkvilleysm1p.html

Thanks,

$422.94

of course, thats a published price and if you get one of the competitiors on the phone on the right day, Im sure you could snag $400/pr shipped.....

or you could go with the passive YSM1's and an amp for about $350.........

yep i got a pair of yorks ysm1 passives for 219.00 on ebay...of course it took a MONTH to get them....lol..but still a good deal

Would that give the same results as the active monitors? I've heard it's better to get actives (unless you can afford a good amp), but would a approx. $100 amp be able to compete with the active monitors?

Especially, since the price difference is fairly small, would it just be better to save up a little extra and get the actives?

Thanks,
