I came across some JBL Control 5 plus,a stereo matched pair per JBL.
Their kinda pricey per the internet at $500 pair.
Recording studio and mobile recording etc....
strange, versatile speaker, i assume marketed/designed for a certain mobility with wall brakets available and plastic, odd shape.

Not much reviews on these, even consumer sites don't have many reviews?

Was wondering if any gearheads have had any experience with these?

Test drove with several consumer CD's and some mixing...seems every speaker i have sounds very different.

+positive
they seemed a bit more detailed as i could hear the reverb trail off's on some vocals better. Bass and Drums also more pronounced. they kind of made my BWDM303's sound muffled.

Kind of a "upper mid shrill" on some guitars and s's.....what i call ear bleed, hurts my ears at that freq, especially at louder volumes.
the 303's don't have that ear bleed, piercing upper mid freq thing going on.

this made me wonder which would be the better monitor for doing mixes?
never heard any Adams, Waterdales, JBL4xxx, Urei, etc...

You'll have to hear those and more before you make a final decision, and even then see if you can get the place you buy them from to give you a 'try 'em at home' period.

The right speaker for one set of ears may be the wrong one for another, and specs don't mean shit --- only listening does.

I use and recommend KRK speakers, but do not take my word for it...

M is for Monitors

i agree.

all theoretical knowledge, (cost, specs, design) on these JBL's point to being better than my BW303's. they were a bit more detailed too in this range.
i was laughing at how easy it was to hear the piano bench "creek" at the end of Day IN the Life on Sgt Pepper....and reverb tails were so easily heard on these JBL's and when i switched to my BW303's i couldn't even hear the reverb!!

but personally, the upper mid range hits my ears wrong. i can't handle that.

oh well i'm letting em go for $150....or their gone.. i din't have sht into them.
always a fun test drive.... :)

now if i could come across some BW602's for $200!!
