JBL 4312's Studio Monitors - midrange sounds different on one side

I am noticing a significant difference in the midrange sounds between my right and left speakers. I use a set of JBL 4312 Control Monitors.
One side just seems to have stronger midrange. The other side sounds more high frequency. I replaced the midrange driver on the speaker that is lacking midrange at some point in the past, but it was a long time ago. The speakers have been in storage for a long time until recently. I verified the replaced midrange speaker is working, and it bears the same model # and markings as the original one.
I tried switching the output signals, and the strong midrange remains on the same side.
Any idea why this would be? Could the midrange driver I replaced, although it's working, be outputting different frequency ranges?
Any input is most appreciated.
Thanks

Have you tries swapping the speakers around . . . switching their placement from left to right and vice-versa?

This will tell you whether it is the speaker or its placement.

Yes, or 'mono feed one at a time set tight right next to each other 'dead center.
I take it you're not sure how they were back when with the new driver?

Yikes. Still have a pair of 2105's

Has anyone been swapping components in the past? Maybe a speaker out of phase? Not the whole box but a speaker within the box?

Alan.

Just a footnote to this, JBL speakers are (or were?) wired out of phase to other brands (coils wired opposite way), often we would have JBL's in a PA and find that someone had put a speaker back in a cab with the red wire on red (which is normal) were we would have the JBL's wired red to black to match the other brands of speakers we had in the whole PA system, i.e we had Altec horns and some Altec 15".

Are the mid and hi level controls set the same? Could one of the knobs have been put on wrong, pointing the wrong way? Maybe dirty pots. Run them through their whole range of rotation.

Could the replacement mid have been installed with the polarity inverted (wires swapped)?

Otherwise perhaps it's a faulty pot or some problem with the crossover.
