I'm not sure I'm comfortable calling something that I do jazz....but it seems to fit...somewhat. Maybe somewhere in the fusion teritory?

Anyway, this is a little ditty I'm working on. Nothing is really finalized, and I plan to redo most of it once I work out the melodies and lengthen the whole arrangement a little. But I always like to listen to an unfolding project a little and perhaps refine it before I consider it a real song....

My first time recording my fretless bass. How despicable is my intonation? :p

Anyway, I'd like to get some feedback on what is a new style for me.
Let it rip!

Haha..I just noticed that I didn't turn off the click track that is there during the interlude part..... :p
That's not supposed to be there.

Very cool. It's "jazzy", almost "smooth jazzy" :D

Its a good recording, it sounds like people in a room. Its a little too reverby for my tastes, but that may be your intention to give it a "real" feel. Well done, this is hard to pull off.

Well, nothing stuck it. Perhaps you should leave it :D

haha, Well, it was just there for when I was playing the arpeggios in the background..the first part I recorded....everything else is just sort of there, you know? :p

Thanks for listening!

Nice playing...I'd like to hear the lead part brought up a bit in volume, in comparison to the drums. Seems a bit quiet. I hear nothing wrong with the bass playing, as it sounds pretty cool. Good tone also. The click track actually sounds like some sticks tapping together, and fits.

Cool tune man.

Thundercock!!!!!

Thanks dog....I felt like I was going out on a limb by doing something like this, but I enjoy it, what can I say?

They call me Thundercock..... ;)

Is that still DKFH superior that you're using, or is it a real set now?

I like the sound of the song all together, very fusionesque. I can hear some Scofield in the guitar. Now all you need to do is have a bunch of people collaborate on some solos!

Still DFHS for the drums.

Thanks for listening!

Hey metalhead the bass for this is a tad too loud for the mix other than that it seems like youv'e captured some spectacular tones. I really enjoyed it.

I believe you're right and thanks, I really appreciate it!

Very jazzy - you are most versatile Mr Metalhead28.... Smooth and flowing nicely. Great clean/dirty tones on the guitar, excellent drums.

I would agree that the guitar could come up a bit to accentuate or showcase it a bit more...

Bass is maybe a bit loud now but if you brought the guitar up it might be ok...

Excellent sir.....

:) :D :) :D

It's fusiony for sure. Gotta loosen that drummer up a little, he's p[retty tightly wound with that swing quantization... :) He plays cymbals like a rocker too; or maybe, he's playing a rock-sounding kit, I suppose.

The fretless sounds very good indeed, intonationwise, I heard nothing that made my head snap around. It could be more defined in the midrange thought, take advantage of the unique tone. Try vinyl coated strings on it sometime, it's wonderful to play, and it makes it sound almost like a standup... they are black, if you have a black neck too, the visual effect is stunning...

The band is really tight, I bet the rock and roll just thunders. Keep exploring jazz, listen to cats that are way mellower than you plan to play, to reel in the tight rock feel thing... Find some Steppes Ahead, Vital Information, newer Yellowjackets...

Good stuff, keep it coming!!

Dude, this is rockin'.....errrr.... jazzin'. :)

So the lead should be brought up a little, I'd say, 'coz I can barely hear it. :)

Bass sounds fine and tad high but like others said once the guitar is brought up, the bass might be fine.

The drums sound really cool.

The overall composition is pretty neat.

Keep jazzin'.

Bass levels fine but itcould use a little definition OR compression to bring out the fretlessness a little.
Guitar needs to be cranked a little more.
Nice chops (& good sausages as well)

Damn metalhead, the drums sound great! I wish I had your drum programming skills...

I have Toontrack's EZ Drummer and also just got the Korg PadKontrol which came with a lite version of DFHS. But all the great drum sounds in the world do me no good with my (very) limited knowledge of MIDI and lack of skills. I still haven't gotten the hang of drawing the beats in via the piano roll. But I'm hoping the PadKontrol will at least allow me to hammer out a simple beat.

Keep up the great work!

When I first started using DFHS it was my very first foray into MIDI as well. I still do everything in the piano roll manually...I guess I've just gotten used to it. You'll get it!

Thanks.

Mr. Metalhead....I love your new style !

I think the bass would sound really good behind everything...you know, like wrapping it all in a blanket of strong yet soft bottom end.

I like the way you have inter-weaved the different flavours of Jazz in measures, to create a subtle eclectic fusion sound. It is like a fused fusion.... :D

Starts out like a layed back "Alley Cats" bop energy, then moves on to a "Yes" fusion feel, gliding smoothly into that sensual "Santana" latino jazz vibe 2:17 all the way out to the outro. I am partial to that Santana vibe.

Cool sound Metalhead.

Did you use your Jackson for this?

Thanks miss eurt.

I wasn't real conscious of the changing vibes throughout the song as I was writing...it just sort of happened, but in hindsight I think that's why I enjoyed doing it so much. Thanks for the comments.

And yes, I used my Jackson. Neck pickup for the leads, and the center position for the cleans.

;)
