I recorded a 4-way jam on Sunday.
You have to understand that no two participants hear the same thing.
Each user hears a mix of themselves and the rest of the participants a measure behind with a metronome to keep the whole shmear straight.
But if everybody knows the deal up front the jam can develop and sound mighty tightly in the pocket!
These signals were easily 3000 miles distant yet nobody was struggling to find the synchronized beat.
Everything was composed on the fly with the timing situation defined as it was.
Basically listen in and add a line when you have registered the key & the BPM.
