I figure if you can compare Squier to Epiphone, then Jackson to ESP isn't too much to ask. Both companies seem to make awesome metal axes, which do you prefer?

Please note that older Charvels don't count as Jacksons, and the ESPs are the LTD models.

JACKSON!

I play a USA soloist and it is the PERFECT guitar
Seriously, I have seen some nice ESP's in my day but not an LTD.......perhaps you only want to include import Jacksons????.....in that case........

JACKSON!

(note: I realize that a twin humbucker floating bridge guitar is not perfect by everyone's standards.......because some of you are wrong!...haha :D )

Since I am in a picture posting mood, here is my fave guitar. With freshly installed stainless steel jumbo frets!...just like greased lightning!

My ESP LTD EC-1000 (despite having a mouthful of a name) has owned every Jackson I have ever played. Tone-Pros bridge, Sperzel locking tuners, Duncan JB/59's, nice finishout (but not over-the-top). It's one hell of a guitar for $750...

I don't own either. But, I voted Jackson because I think they are made better than ESP. ESP is mainly just Samick guitars on contract.

This is actually a somewhat pointless endeavor....I mean, I have been a fan of Jackson guitars since WAY back and I'm never gonna budge. Just as I'm sure many people are ESP fanatics. Really and truly these guitars are so similar that you almost can't call it. It just comes down to a matter of taste. One advantage I see for ESP is a broader variety of styles...such as the "Les Paul" styled line (which ain't a bad guitar but I would never play a fixed bridge - so why even ask me?) But then you have the fact that you can buy a Jackson custom made here in the states (which is a big bonus in my book!) I was being somewhat...okay...very tongue-in-cheek in my first post, but honestly, nobody could really say either one is better based on any tangible factors...........but my Jackson is still better :D

Your point about people's tastes is well taken, as I would never play a trem bridge :p

ESP.

I got my first one maybe 8 years ago when I was in highschool. I saved for the better part of a year for a new guitar. I went to a music store to check out a Jackson that my dad told me about. It was a soloist with some graphic on it.

I got there and saw the ESP and gave it a try. I never picked up the soloist again. I walked out of the store with the used ESP. :)

It's the purple one. I owned all 3 of these at one point, but now I just have the purple one. I got rid of the other two. Now I have that ESP and 3 Parker Flys. Two Deluxes and one Supreme.

The sound of the ESP and the neck were way better(neck through). It was heavier, but that is probably due to wood choice.

I never liked 'metal' guitars until about a month ago. Now I am dying to get a USA made KE-2 from Jackson.

Jackson

I recently purchased a Jackson Professional. This is the first guitar in a long time I have no desire to swap out the pickups on. The tone is incredible.

should've made the poll Jackson vs. LTD instead. I voted for ESP without reading the thread, and I was comparing ESP custom shop to Jackson lines. so i voted for ESP, not thinking twice.

and LTDs are not made by Samick.

Yea, I probably should have. My bad.

I've owned my Jackson Soloist that I had made out of the custom shop in Cal. since 94'. It's by far the best "playing" guitar I've ever owned or played.

I've never played an LTD, but just by judging all the other "high end" guitars I have, and have played, I'd have to say that it wouldn't stand up to the Soloist.....as none of the other ones do.

again, just my opinion as I've never actually played an LTD.

I have a Ltd f-250 and it sounds way better than my friends Jackson!

I played an SLSMG (Made in Japan Jackson) that is comparable in price to the higher end LTD's over the weekend. I was playing a PRS CU22 for an hour before that and the Jackson really, REALLY impressed me. It didn't make me want to pick the PRS back up. USA Jacksons KILL LTD's but, pricewise--it's just not a fair comparison.

are you sure he wasn't playing a made in indonesia jackson? and also that he wasn't playing through a rogue amp? you can't really say which guitar sounds better than which unless you try it through the same amp and setting....

my ESP LTD SC500 Stephen Carpenter model was $650, maybe it should been $500 but it was more expensive because it's a sig model. there's a lot of room for improvement. A LOT. but it plays and sounds great, and the flaws are all cosmetic so I don't mind much. one day... just ONE day... I'm gonna own a ESP Custom Shop Stephen Carpenter model. or something similar.

I WAS gassing for an ESP Horizon NT-II... too bad they only come in one color.

ESP's are the bomb! I don't think you can ever have too many esp's. I'm coming from a long stint with a japanese Ibanez RG and I needed a new workhorse. Design, quality, durabilty, and most of all TONE. Vipers or horizons it's all good. :D

It seems as if my poll should have been regular ESPs vs. Jacksons. I don't really know much about either, hence the creation of this poll to see what everyone thought. ESPs seem to be the more common guitar, but their LTD models are way cheaper than most Jacksons. I guess they're both good quality brands, just a matter of taste, which is what it always seems to come down to, haha.

Best Guitar I've Ever Owned

ESP Custom based on the George Lynch Kamikaze I. Bummed I sold it, but I got 2x what I paid for it!

Yeah, maybe I am a little biased by the naughtiness of it.

Be that as it may, the plan is to replace it with an actual Kamikaze I.

That aside, it seems silly to blanket compare ESP's to Jacksons. Both brands make some great stuff and both make some lower end stuff (albeit, ESP's lower end stuff is labeled LTD). Different people have their favorites depending on the style of music they play, and even people who play the same style may have different favorites.

That being said, I'm still strongly influenced by Erika...

if the poll was Jackson vs. LTD, it wouldn't have been a very fair poll because high-end Jacksons easily destroy LTDs....

now if it was Jackson vs. ESP, it would've been a different story. i'd say fairly close.
