Hey guys,

I've got another tune here that I'd love some kind of constructive criticism of the mix or production. I kind of feel like there's not a ton of separation between everything. It's one of my more dense mixes, but I want to make sure everything has it's own space.

I've spent quite a bit of time reworking this, so let me know what you guys think about the updates.

NEW VERSION:

OLDER VERSION:

If anyone cares, this was essentially all recorded with a few mics (MXL V67G (vocals, drum overhead & percussion overdubs), SP B1(drum overhead), SHURE KSM32 (only on intro guitar), Shure 57 (snare), Shure Beta 52a (on bass drum). The bass was DI through Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver. Everything was running through my Presonus Firebox into my iMac running Cubase 4LE.

The lead vocals seem a little too loud to me. I like to hear more kick than this. I like it when everything sounds loud and clear. The solo sounded good, but still not as loud as the vocals. I always feel the lead instruments should be the same volume. but that's just the way I would do it...

Hey guys, I've updated the song with some of the feedback...along with some other changes. Feel free to let me know what you think.

Cheers!

I really like the updated mix. To your point about separation, I think the backing vocals are competing for the same space as the acoustic guitars. Maybe try to pan them inside of the guitars since you have the two different guitars hard panned? Maybe even pan them center, or very slightly off center and try to get them to sit behind the lead? I think the mix is already pretty good, and if you could clear that up somehow it would be even better.

I didn't listen to the old mix. I think the updated mix sounded great and it does remind me of Jack Johnson. Great job.

i love it. i abslolutely love it. nice job. the only thing that might do is cut back a bit on the lower frequences in the bass (prolly below 75hz). other than that, it sounds really good. (im talking about the udated mix btw)

to be honest..i like the older version way more. dunno why, maybe it's sound more just out of the box

btw...if you need some crunchy organs or slick e pianos in that song, give me a buzz

I love how surrounding it sounds especially at the beginning. I need to learn how to do that. But in other words I really dig it. Nice job man!

Beautiful, love it!
I like the way that the voice sounds really up close in the beginning and then sinks more into the mix when the rest comes in. Great musicianship and arrangement. Very nice indeed! :)
