How about phoning in your vocals from a phone booth or cell phone to your answering machine then record it/down load it into the computer?:laughings:

might work for that telephone vocal i was looking for :p

Are you sure that singing at speaking levels doesn't work? I am no expert and certainly not brimming with confidence when it comes to singing, but most of the vocal tracks of mine that people seem to think came out well were sung pretty softly. Belting it out doesn't really help at all for me. I suppose it depends on the style of music, but I'm guessing you're not tracking any hard rock or anything, right?

Up until recently, I used to require complete privacy to track vocals, but lately, I don't give a fuck. I just want to get it done, so if the wife and kids have to suffer through hearing some vocal takes with no instrumental background, too bad. I'm leaving it up to them to tell me to knock it off. I would feel the same about neighbors if they were close enough to hear.

Your artistic vision is more important than other people's desire not to be disturbed by an eighties reject  :D

I get what you're saying...and maybe its part of being in a new country thats making me self concious...but everything ive attempted in the last month or so sounds so shit I spend a day cleaning it up, sticking effects on it, then shoving it in the bin :o

and im not the best vocalist to begin with

i have four or five instrumentals coming up then maybe ill dig these songs back out..it might be other things, Ive noticed im gaining some weight and my penis is shrinking :D

Sorry for the late chime in. I really don't have anything to add other than I feel your pain, but for different reasons. I can't do vocal tracks because I am stuck on a big, noisy ass ship with ventilation and engine noises constantly. I tried to do an a cappela track a few days ago. The singing went fine, but the lyrics were crap... :o

And the background noise was so bad, even a really good gate and some careful editing won't help...

well solution found :)

I just won a Zoom MRS-4 portable multitrack (I alreay have the drum machine that goes with it) for $32 on ebay! and now im going to get an ART phantom II....all run on batteries so now either going to try the car or find a recording space

good start to the week :)

Very cool KC!
May I suggest going to a local university and finding an indoor 3 or 4 story stairway used for a fire escape.
They are always vacant and secluded. I've used them to do reamping with stellar results.

That or in the music department .....they always have practice cubes that are sound proof.

Sometimes giving up is the right thing to do...

When you have a crappy voice... I have tried like 40 takes on this last track I made and I hate em all. The music is awesome, the lyrics are great, my voice is ruining the damn song

Seriously thinking about trying to find someone to sing my lyrics for me =/

I think hating ones own vocal takes is pretty common no matter how good they might be. All we can think is "oh god do I really sound like that?!". What do others around you say about your voice?
