OMG what a weekend ya'll!!!
I went and un-installed windows vista and went back to good ol' windows xp this weekend and let me tell you this was a trip.

Un-installing the OS (operating system) was very easy (the 3 hour wait time was a mutha though lol) and formatting the drive and deleteing Vista was a breeze. And then i got to every musicians worst fear (especially a producers worst fear) i had to re-install everything back that i had backed up AAAARRRGGGGHHHH *in crazed charlie brown voice*

Like eminem my list went...
Pt8 Le (the mother of all load times), Mp3 bounce option for PT8 Le, McDSP plugins, Waves Mercury Bundle, Waves SSL Collection, Waves API Bundle, FXpansion VST to RTAS wrapper, Adobe Audition 3.0, URS EQ plugin pack, Reason 4.0, my midi keyboard (radium 61 older model), VST plugins and last but not least...

THE DAMN DRIVERS THAT HAPPENED TO NOT COME ON THE DISK!!!
OMG I DAMN NEAR KILLED MY COMPUTER FOR REAL!!!

It was so damn hard finding these drivers that i damn near lost my mind yall but i found out how to get all my drivers and not pay a dime :D

i installed driver detective and wen it identified my computer make and model as well as the manufacturer i took that info to the manufacturers website and presto. I was able to get all my drivers and all was almost happy in the land of Ill Soul Studio's and then PT 8 wanted to through a bitch fit. Apparently Structure was too large of an add on to load properly after waiting so instead of waiting further i just deleted it lol (i can always download just that plugin if i want from my disc  )

So i opened PT and fixed all my settings back to how i had them (thank god i saved my session templates yeah!!!) and in the course of a whole day i m done.

What a nightmare... Sounds like you need to create a disk image. If you have
an image of you hard drive partition you can have your system back up and running in 10mins instead of all day. I know you went back to windows xp and that was part of the problem. I have a image of all of my drives and Os and it's saved me several times here lately. I lost 3 hards over a weeks period. I was able to recover quickly using acronis disk imaging. I create a new image ever week. You just don't know how important backing up is...

ok...

then teach me o wise one so i may never be as lossful an engineer...again:o

Check out this program: Acronis True Imaging 2010

You will need to make a boot cd and you need a drive/media that will have enough space on it to house your backup image. I am a hard drive junkie.. so I wouldn't use myself as an example... I have 2 1tb drives and 1 750gb. I'm saving to buy a drobo, which will allow me to add more drives.. at my own pace... My motto is you can never have enough hard drives... but that's just me. Once you have your boot disk which you use to boot your pc with, you then will be prompted to insert your media with your backup image. Once you do that.. it's all good... your entire pc in it's current state will be restored... so make sure you don't have any viruses.. or spyware installed before you make your back up image. Making an image is just as easy... just select backup entire pc... and select which drives you want....and then select the location of where you want to save the backup.... super easy.

There are other ways you can image, but I found this to be super easy. If your tech savy microsoft offers a imaging software called microsoft PAE which is free, but it requires you install a few supporting applications and you have to throw command line statements to point your image to it's location... I use it at work and it stinks.... but it's free.... and the licensing for a corporation is taken into consideration when using it at work. Norton also has a product called ghost.. which has been around for several years that works well too... but i'm in love with acronis for it's ease of use. Hope that helps!

the main reason why i dont use software.. for making music on for mixing..

hope everything works out
