Ive got $200 to start on the acoustics of my studio. Ive been studying it long and hard (even though i still dont understand everything) and i think its time to modify the acoustics and make the studio look cooler. So far, ive searched long and hard and i havnt been able to get rigid fiberglass here in idaho so i gotta work with other stuff. Basically i know i gotta build bass traps in all the corners of my rooms. Im planning on going with John Sayers plan for the slot resonators but i need to modify it to use R11 and R19 fiberglass. Im a little unsure however how thick i need to make them. The control rooms acoustics are pretty good behind me and the monitors because i have ribed R19 insulation to absorb, but the side walls of the control room are parellel so i believe i need to put a midd absorber with some diffusion there. Then of course the basic bass traps in the corners. This room is 9x14 feet, the window is in the middle of the 14 ft wall. The other room is the recording room. I probably wont be able to have a very sufficient vocal booth in this studio so im gonna make the best out of the situation. The room size is 16x14 ft, with 8ft cielings (that goes for the control room too). This room is nearly perfectly square so it need the basic treatment similiar to what John Sayers has on his site. However, again, i just need help figureing out the size of the slat resonators and maybe a little help on how to make them.
I will draw out some plans to help you see all this better but its pretty basic. The materials of the walls might make things a little trickier. In the control room, the front, left, and back wall are drywall, and the right wall is really thick concrete. In the recording room the left and back wall are drywall, and the front and right wall are really thick concrete. The ceiling is drywall also.
Like i said, i will draw out some plans, and also get the frequencies of the room if its needed to help. But i would really like to get some ideas going here so i can have time to think about what i am going to do. Any help is appreciated, and ideas are welcome. Remember the budget is around $200 which i think will do a good range of the treatment.
Thank you,
Danny
