OK, this is probly really cheap and lame, but my bandmate suggested that we use his ZOOM 505 pedal for things like compression, reverb, etc.etc.etc.
At first I said no, but my question is: What is the real detriment to using an effects pedal like that on things like drums, voice, etc? Just a guess, but could it be specifically tailored to guitar sound, and therefore will try to make a voice or drums sound like a guitar? Or could it just be that they are really shoddy? Basically, the question is this: will using the ZOOM 505 have a negative impact on my music?

YO Ishouisdat you?

When recording try all things; not all things are equal and not all things work; however, when it does work, it's a wonderful day. So, try it and experiment and have fun.

levels

Just keep in mind that devices like the Zoom are intended to recieve the tiny signal emanating from the pickups of a guitar, and a line level signal from a mixer is many orders of magnitude stronger. However,I have a Zoom 503 amp simulator and it has 2 input jacks, one of which is designed for stronger signals,so if your 505 has 2 also,go with that one,and if there is any kind of speaker simulation in the patch you use, turn it off unless you want to sound like you're singing through a guitar amp.

ishou: like The Green Hornet says, try everything.
what about a nanocompresor and a nanoverb or the art fx1?
about $90us each.

excuse me for this ishou.
virtual.ray:
I have the 505 and the 506.
do you recomend the 503 for my "collection"?
(I am thinking in a thread of the 503 for rec guitar and bass)

good for the price

I initially bought the 506 but then I tried the 503 and ended up exchanging them,'cause the 503 also has a few bass amp emulations, and I liked a couple of the guitar amps, like the Vox and the Boogie.THe FX on it are more limited, however, and to be totally honest,it doesn't sound as good as either a Pod or a J-Station,but I paid like 90 bucks for mine. One cool thing is that you can plug a CD player in and jam along, plus it's real portable and it can make a mediocre guitar amp sound a lot better when you use it with an amp.

I'm using it, and it seems to be okay...course, I really can't compare it with anything else!
The Nanoverb will be mine come Christmas.

I recommend running keyboards through distortion pedals...but then, I am insane.
