Hi,

Here is what I hope is the definitive mix of this song.

I have incorporated many of the very helpful comments I have received here and at three other sites, namely:

Second g. solo has been completely re-tracked.

Vox have been evened out

Bass and Kick have been EQed for more bottom-end

outro is less-cluttered

Sounds great man... maybe too much reverb on the guitar solo. I like the backing vocals. The drums are programmed right? it's too repetitive during the song...

Very clean mix with just the right ambience to it. What's your recording chain for the voice, it sounds damn good? Wonderful arrangement. I especially liked the guitar solo and the walking bass sounds cool. Well done!

Zero: yep the drums are the freeze-dried variety. I wish a real drummer was feasble, but unfortunately not possible given my recording set-up.

Joey: Vox are through an SM58 - a tube pre - into a 2488 & seasoned with a touch of aural exciter & verb.

I think the vocals and lead are too up front. I guess the vocal styling is supposed to be the way it is, but it seems very timid. Like you're barely singing and there's too much lip smacking noise in the quiet parts. It seems really dry. I'm thinking something like this should be a little roomier with the vocals down in the mix more. But whatever. The rest sounds pretty good to me.
 
Greg L, thank you for the comments.

I tried the vox further back in the mix and the words got lost. The solo is loud(ish) in attempt to get a good dynamic range into the tune.

If I sang any louder, you'd hear the neighbours banging on the walls - which wouldn't bother me half so much if only they would bang in time.

There we go! We've got some bottom end reporting in now. Makes alot of difference in the overall mix. I think that's the most verb I've ever heard you use on a mix....it might be a bit much, but it isn't killing me. It is a very nice verb tho...very smooth tails on that.
Love the emphasis on the rhythm guit in the outro....very tasty.
A much improved mix...one of your better ones, amigo.:cool:

Btw, I know a drummer that would knock this outta the park and he's very collab friendly...just FYI.
