Suck 'em and see!
so it took me all day yesterday to bolt it all into the box, tricky part being the Zlaman ultraquiet CPU cooler but I got there in the end. Those things are hard to fit with one set of hands.

I turned on the power and my heart sank....a green light came on but nothing.....HA! as in no noise! I had to double check the power supply fans were both turning. I honestly can't tell if it's on or off walking into the room. So, I'm now running..

Pentium IV 3.0Ghz (at 32 degrees C)
ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe (at 30 degrees C)
1 Gig KINGMAX TURBO DDR400 (2 x 512 dual channel)
Maxtor 40Gig ATA133/7200/8meg cache (system drive)
Maxtor 160Gig ATA133/7200/8meg cache (recording drive)
Matrox G450 Dual head 32Meg graphics
NEC DVDRW 12x
Delta 1010 8in/8out
Delta 410 2in/8out X2
All housed in a 4u 19" black Antec case with ultra quiet 400w power supply

I've got all my cards in and the O/S and everything configured so, What can it do?

I'm not too sure yet but you can bet your boots I'll be putting it through the paces this weekend. I still have my recording and editing software to instal (Cubase SX & Abode Audition) but work in the morning so I just thought I'd share the good news before bed time.

You guys have been a great help on here helping me pick out the right parts for what at least looks so far like it's gonna be a killer system. Many thanks,

Alec

Well done mate ,sounds like you're in for some fun.Hugely impressed with the temp ratings .

regards - matt :D

Glad to hear it man!
What heatsink/cooling are you using to keep that baby so cool?

Well done.
Now get clocking. With that kind of cooling you could get that baby up to 4GHz, maybe more

They have a 12x burner out? Where did you find it?

I had that feeling when I built my computer, except mine really didn't come on. I can't remember what the problem was, only took a minute to fix, but after spending all that time and then finally plugging it in and pressing the power button...my heart really did sink when nothing happened.

BTW...Next time I'm buying one already assembled. That way I'll have someone to yell at when things go wrong.

I'd love to hear an update on how the machine is performing.

Awesome setup dude! What are you running antifreeze and water through a radiator to keep it that cool? lol you could do some serious overclocking with that. my dream system never happened when the mother board didnt come. I ordered an ASUS P4T-533C with a 3.06GHZ HT chip instead of the P4P800 because I prefer the chipset that supports Rambus, but I think because now that rambus is dead I'm just gonna order the P4P800 and run the 64bit chip in it to see what kind of damage i can do!

I understand that these temperature readings are for the idling machine. You will get more realistic picture once you measure the temperature under the heavy load. BTW if you have variable speed fans, that will be when they really kick in. Since your machine is pretty quite now, it should not be very loud then.

My system's better  j/k hehe

Looks like some of our system parts are similar, only I got the Asus P4C800-E Deluxe instead, I forgot what the main difference was, but they are basically the same board. I also got that same Zalman fan and had a hard time getting it in, all the reviews on NewEgg.com didn't mention anything of installation problems, but I personally found it very awkward, unless your lucky enough to have a 3rd hand ;)

What size of screen monitor did you get? I thought a 19" would be plenty big for me, but now I'm kinda thinking I shouldn't have gone anything less of a 21 incher. Oh well, I think dual monitors would be a much cooler setup ;)

Congrats on getting everything up and running, I expected major problems when I first turned mine on for the first time (also a first time PC builder), but the thing actually worked. Only downside are the Antec fans that came with my case are so friggen loud, and don't even push nearly as much air as the sweet Coolermaster fan with the Blue LED lighting up my PC window.

Yes those Antec case fans are very noisy and will be replaced this weekend by Zalman fans.

The temp was after an hour idling with the 120mm intake and 2 x 80mm exhaust fans disconected...room temp was about 18C

The actual MOBO isn't the P4P800 Deluxe, they sent me the P4P800 -E Deluxe because the before mentioned was out of stock. Only difference I see on it is the -E has 8 channel sound, S/PDIF & Optical outs....which I've disabled anyway.

I'll post up after the weekend and let you all know how she performs

I already had the monitors...19" & 17" but my next purchase further down the line will be 2 matching TFTs..... someday ;)

She Passed The Test!!!

22 track song loaded in cubase SX continous loop for 3 hours while I went shopping. Performance bar at 37% for the CPU 19% for disk, CPU was at 36C and the MOBO at 33C

At this rate I've got room to double track the cowbell on future productions ;)

Didn't have a whole lot of plugins in use but I fold back to the desk and use outboard gearmostly...Software: 12 channels of compression (waves, blockfish), 3 channels of PSP vintage warmer, 5 channels of waves trueverb, 2 channels Antares mic modler. HEALTHY!

I'm over the moon and have this place and you guys who know what you're talking about to thank a million times over for it!

Thanks guys

P.S. use the search feature...it works! :D
