Hi there, mp3 clinic people!

It has been a while since I've posted anything - I have been busy doing a lot of different stuff (school mostly).

In one of my recording classes, I had an assignment to do some sample work, so I recorded my girlfriend's voice while talking with her on the phone (she didn't know it at the time) and I also recorded the coils on the space heater in my studio warming up, and turned it into a low drone, added some musical elements, and ended up with this little experimental thing.

To download, go here and select Music from the tab menu, then click the MP3 next to Baked Potato :

To stream, go here and select Baked Potato :

Curious to know what y'all think about it.

Thanks,
Brad

P.S. I am cooking up something that will be dedicated to DavidK, this is not it.

Man, when you said "It's been a long time" I was expecting a Boston reference!

Very cool work, great sound. Your girlfriend has a sexy voice. Song could use some hand claps. :D

Nice work, Brad! Sounded great on my speakers (Event Tria). I could go for a baked potato right now. Mmmm, baked potato.

Gee, you're portraying your girlfriend as being rather fixated on potatoes. Have you asked her about this?

The sound: so you like spuds and verb, yeah?

the baked potato song was alright but I really liked the other stuff, wish I has some green.

Hey Brad, I'm sure you got this message from MP3.com too, but they are having that "Score a movie from Turner Classic Movies" contest again and I instantly thought of you. If you need anymore information about it, send me a message and I'll forward it. I'm sure you can get it from MP3.com too. Let me know. You should definately do this, man!

You captured the vintage Zappa feel of crossing that threshold of consciousness when a very high dosage of acid starts to wear off into the realm of a moderate dosage of acid. And left deeply wondering why this moment intersects a potato!

Interesting.

The underrhythm is repetive, and the whole song is short.

Cool though. Groovy even.

Ged rid of the 'click' at the end.

Good stuff Brad.

Nice.:D

I agree with docky on this one all except for the Zappa reference. Cool shit!

> I agree with docky on this one all except for the Zappa reference

You'll have to splain that to me Lucy.

Reference "we're only in it for the money" and "Freak Out"

Anal retentive calliope music and The return of the son of monster magnet, not to mention "Who are the Brain Police?"

Widen your horizons in the new year.

Nice.

Long time no see. How's it going?

How'd you do the pitch shifts? Hardware or software sampling?

Where'd you get the drums sounds? are those loops or are they from your modules?

Are those the warming up coils that come in around 00:55? Whatever it is, I like it.

And yes, as someone else mentioned, get rid of the click at the end please.

looky Doc no 'fence but I'm just not a Zappa fan!!! I mean he definitely was a freak and an innovator and all which I do respect, but his music has always gone over my head. I'm a simple guy and I need more groove in my life less chord progressions!

(rats pulling on ears in a desperate atempt to widen his horizons)

Excellent, Brad, very creative and clever. Your girlfriend must be very proud.

Hey rats- don't pull too hard on those appendages. My cats have proven that if you pull too hard- they just come right off....

You don't have to like Zappa to understand the influence he had on music in general and this piece in particular.

Hey guys,
thanks for all the comments. No time to respond how I would like. Because of some sad news that has affected me deeply, and in my own stupidity, a resulting bad encounter with the law (read: I am in trouble) I am not going to be around these parts for a while. No pity party or anything, I am just committed to righting my wrongs at present. So if y'all don't see me around for a bit, that is why. I will be back at some point in the future and I will see/talk to y'all then.

My email still works, I am not dead (...ain't found a way to kill me yet...)

I almost put a long explanation in the cave, but decided that in light of recent events, it just seemed silly and too dramatic. When I come out clean on the other side of my stupid mess, I'll be really happy to see all of you freaks on these boards again.

Until then,

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da,

Brad
