Recording my buddy's next CD, and he whips this out of a back closet: F&H Schumann GMBH "type" MDS 3NH1 (or l).
I couldn't find much info on this company or this kind of mic on the internet, so I thought I'd ask here.

It sounded great on a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe in x/y with a plain 'ol 58 (which worked better on this amp than the vintage 545 I tried earlier, go figure) in stereo OR mono.

I haven't tried to convince my buddy to let me open it up and look inside, and I can't really tell what it IS underneath the grille... it does sound warmer than the 58, tho!

Any info? Any $$$ value? Please and thanks.

Ooh baby. That's a serious antique! It's a Schumann MDS-3N. I think the HI indicates high impedance, so you may find it will work better if you use a high-to-low impedance transformer (a $10 or-so item at any Guitar Center). You're right that there isn't much info out there. All that I can tell you is- it's German-made, and a dynamic cardioid. I'd just make sure the impedance is properly matched, and if you like it, use it. It's worth about $200 just as an antique collectible. -Richie

Hey, thanks for the info, I was wondering if this was so off the radar no one would have heard of it!

I was running it into my Bellari RP 220, but I have the ART TPS II which has variable input impedance, so I will do some experimenting with it. What is an average low Z impedance load?

But who would buy something like this for $200 I wonder...
