I'm sure this will be added to the "stupid questions" page...but I'm stuck, so I have to ask it.

I have burned/copied cd's before with no problems...but I recently purchased the Sara Mclachlan CD and can't seem to make a copy for my brother. First, using Adaptec Easy CD Copier, I tried to copy the CD. I got some bizarre error saying Adaptec "couldn't read one or more of the tracks"---therefore was unable to copy it. The CD, by the way, plays fine in any CD player or on the computer...so the CD isn't scratched, etc.

I then tried opening the CD with windows explorer in an effort to find the tracks myself (figured I would turn them into .wav files and burn them that way). Couldn't find them.... there are no tracks on the CD (at least my computer can't find them).

So now what? Is this some new anti-burn CD? If it is, anyway to get around it?

Stumped and feeling stupid,

Have you tried creating a disc image on your HD using Adaptec SW? That Windows Explorer idea was all wet from the start. Windows Explorer will only show a pointer to the audio data, not the audio data itself.
The really cute workaround probably involves
some new equipment. You need a CD player and soundcard that both support S/PDIF transfer using the same type of cable (Coaxial or Optical). This method works much like running the analog outs into the analog ins you've currently got, but produces a digital copy as a .wav file instead of one that has gone through a D/A and A/D conversion.

As Drstawl says.. burn an image. Use your cd-r to extract an image - then burn.

Always burn cd's off your hard drive.

Hello,

Well, thank you all! I was able to burn the disk by doing the disk image thing. I will admit I had no idea what I was doing while I was doing it---but everything turned out fine. =o)

Thanks again!
