I cannot believe this . . .

About 3 months ago, my current SONAR Project happened to be open, when my previous AI (LynxTWO) crashed the OS (XP) big time.

When I finally recovered; & replaced the AI (went to an Echo Audio Layla24/96), everything was in tact, except for the fact that the Audio Tracks would not recognize the Layla Output Devices. All other Projects (including new ones) were fine. But in the Project that was open when the machine went down, the drop down menus listing Output Devices in each Audio Track Window's "Out" Control would read: A(-None-), B(-None-), etc., etc.

I tried everything.

Finally, I sent the Project file to Cakewalk tech support; & they repaired it (to the point whereby 1/2 were recognized . . . 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 were not.) But that was good enough to work with on a basic level. Every time I needed additional channels (for functions such as sending & receiving a signal to & from an effects device, etc.), I would copy & paste the track in question to a new Project, get the work done; & bring it back.

The only reason I didn't simply copy & paste every Track to a new Project (& then kill the old Project) was that . . . Track & Clip Automation from the corrupted Project did not copy into the new one !

Now . . . it has happened again.

I turned my machine on tonight, opened the Project . . . & NO OUTPUT DEVICES !

So . . . my question is:

Short of sending this thing back to Cake for another repair, does anyone know of a fix for a malady such as this? Is there perhaps some entry I can make in an .INI file? Is there a trick I am missing?

I know we have some brains around here (I used to be one myself, before this bug-a-boo caused the ol' dementia to set in.)
Sure could use some help.

Thanks much,

similar problem

I had a similar problem using an Aardvark Q10. After shutting my computer off for the night, and rebooting the next day, Sonar 3 would only recognize channels 1,2 and not the rest. I went round and round with the techs at Aardvark for several days until they finally suggested that I create a new hardware profile that eliminated all hardware not used in making music. This worked! The only drawback is that if I want to go online or use any USB device, except my CD burner, I must reboot into a different profile. You can create as many hardware profiles as you want, using various combinations of hardware until you find one that suits you. You can learn how to do it at this site: http://www.dpo.uab.edu/technotes/technote0051.shtml. I had thought that this was solely a problem with Q10, but after hearing about your problems with the Layla, I'm beginning to think that it may be a problem with Sonar. Good luck.

Wife,

Thanks for the response. If push comes to shove, I will do just that.

...but...

This is a problem associated with only *one* Project. All the others are fine; & recognize all output devices. This is why it is so difficult for me to figure out the solution.

Will keep trying.

Thanks again,

No Audio out?

I have a similiar problem or condition on my set up. If I open up SONAR while another program is accessing the audio drivers, (like windows media player, roxio cd creator, etc...) the program opens with no audio outputs. They normally comes back after I reboot. I don't know if this will help you but make sure nothing else is using the audio driver when you open SONAR.

In regard to kgbjamin, I have this problem as well. Never had it before I upgraded to Sonar. What kind of sound card are you using? I thought it was an Aardvark issue, but I'm not so sure, now.

Weird Update

kgbjamin,

Thanks . . . have no other apps accessing the drivers simultaneously.

But I've worked myself somewhat back (with a weird sort-of development.)

I followed advice from another forum; & deleted the AUD.INI file; & changed Driver Models; & now . . .

. . . the corrupted Project file *does* recognize both ASIO & WDM Output Devices . . .

. . . but . . .

. . . not the very first stereo pair (for either Model.)

The various Audio Tracks recognize analog 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 (& also; all digital Output Devices), but not analog 1/2 (for either ASIO or WDM.)

I suppose I could now go with 3/4; & re-route that Virtual Main out through 1/2 . . . so that I at least have a workable Project? (which would be a heck of a lot better than copying every Audio Track to a new Project; & then rewriting *all* of the Track & Clip Automation.)

Or, maybe now, select MME as a Driver Model; & try again?

But . . . I continue to hold out hope that there is some change I can make in the AUD.INI file that will bring me back to square one.

Any further help will be appreciated; & I am very grateful for help received from everyone, already.

Thanks again,

Hey Mark,
Your problem is a little bit more sophisticated then the one I mentioned. The delete aud.ini file trick does help to fix some audio driver conflicts with sonar at times but I think you may have to get with the techs from ardvark and cakewalk to help you on this one.

Lynn,
I have a Delta 66 which I'm satisfied with at this time but there are some issues with it and sonar that develope at times. As much as I like sonar it definitely isn't perfect, but then again nothing is.

Sonar 3 Producer is........ I havent found one single flaw in this new version.

SOLVED ! ! !

Wow . . .

You won’t believe this (actually, maybe you will...never thought of it, myself.)

Turned out to be a Virtual Main assignment problem.

After reading a response by dachay2tnr in another post relative to a similar problem, I (followed his advice &) went to the Main/Aux Buss Pane in (what I thought to be) my corrupted Project. On the I/O Tab, "None" was listed in the Output Assignment drop-down menu for set A ! I switched it to 1/2; & now I'm fixed up good.

Cake tech support didn't even send me there . . . got it from a fellow SONAR Meister in the BBS. Hats Off to dachay ! ! !

Man, I am so relieved . . . I thought I was going to have to copy & paste everything (about 65 tracks) to a new Project file; & then rewrite all of the Track & Clip Automation over. Whew!

Thanks again for everyone’s help,
