Sheep Defiler
I'm rather hard headed, and have learned that while recording direct is easier, it just doesn't sound the same as a mic'ed speaker. I live in an apartment building, so I really need to keep the noise to a minimum.

I'd love to build one, especially something I could run my Princeton Reverb or Mesa Boogie Mk III (on low wattage setting, of course). Anyone know where I can find some designs?

Thanks...

do a search here...there's also some manufactured ones by demeter...

I use one that I built a lot. I find a 10" speaker works better in most cases than a 12" speaker. Keep that in mind when designing one. I posted some pics in a thread a couple of months ago. Search it. ;)

My 2 cents

I agree recording direct is missing something. I believe it's not only the sound of the speaker, but the movement of air, that is missing.

I use both Mark IV and old Fender amps for recording. In MOST cases, these amps need to be cranked a fair amount to get that oh-so-sweet sound.

So if you do build an iso box - it would a good idea to make sure it's big enough for air to move around within it AND to make it sound proof enough that you can crank it.

Iso Box

After searching HR, I see I'm not the only one.

Maybe I should consider heavy blankets to muffle the sound in the closet. I'd love to build something that would hold either amp.

Hmmm. I appreciate all the help, y'all.

Granted, I am a bit slow...

...but I might take some time through the holidays and put together a small iso box. Since I'm on a budget (ain't we all?) does anyone have any low cost suggestions for insulation?

Building one to use my amp in would be nice, but I'd have to have a way to keep it from overheating.

as far as overheating goes...you can just build the speaker inside the enclosure...keep the amp on the outside.

i love princetons.

no news on the materials. i'd think the olde box in a box would work best tho!

laaaaaaaater!

I appreciate it...

Everyone has been a huge help, and I appreciate it. Y'all keep you eyes open, as I may attempt such a feat. I mean...physically, the box isn't that tough. But I might have a question or two about wiring this puppy up.

Thanks again for all the help, y'all.
