hi there, i have a small home studio and my rig consists of pro tools m powered 7.4 cs3, m audio 1010lt, mackie cfx12( i do know it not an ideal mixer for recording), xp service pack 3, 4 gigs of ram, intel core 2 duo and intel DG31RQ motherboard.... this rig might sound very amateur though it's serving my needs and the clients of course... lets come to the main objective here: just wanted to know i have a primary drive that has the OS installed and an audio drive thats 500GB's, as i start the recording some times it give me errors like DAE error forgot the error code though, sometime cache size errors, and playback errors, i tend to use virtual instruments for drums and some times guitar rig 3/4. can u suggest me as i think it is because of the System that i have for recording... if so what would be the ideal configuration for a basic home studio rig in a budget..... kind help will be appreciated..thanks

Hi there KPG.

The thing to do is to find out exactly why you're getting an error.

There are many different errors and many different reasons for them. You may well find your setup is absolutely fine.
You error sounds like it might be down to having the buffer size to low, but this is just speculation.

So, Two main things to do.

1: Protools has an activity monitor, as does windows. Keep them open for reference so when you have a crash you can see if it's Cpu/Hdd/Memory reated.
2: Make a note of the error number and any other information that comes with.

If your current sessions aren't on the 500GB secondary drive I would start to put them there too.
This is good practice.

Hope that helps.
