well i was talking to my friend who also records bands and such and he was trying to explain to me how he replaces drums. he first said
"convert to midi then run the samples as a VI"

secondly, he said "basically. MIDI notes trigger a VI (Virtual Instrument).
I have SSD running as a VI track in my DAW. I connect the 2 together so that the midi track triggers the VI track and therefore making the drum play".

I dont have SSD, but i do my electronic drums in this program called beatcraft. i wanted to know if its possible in reaper to do what he has done. any answers can help. thanks

Yes. Everything is possible in Reaper.
Seriously though, you can. The simplest way is with the included plugin called drumtrigger. Just filter the drum track so that you are getting just the fundamental of the drum you want (use EQ and probably ReaFir for best results). I think what I did after that was create another track (well, really a set of tracks that were automatically generated) for EZ Drummer. On that master VI track, I put drumtrigger. Play around with the settings until you get it triggering right and sounding the way you want. You can set it to trigger whatever MIDI note you want, though EZ drummer has several MIDI notes for the same drum, which is a little confusing. But just play with it until you get the sound you want.
