Is this how I hoop up my mixer?

I found this at: http://home.earthlink.net/~rongonz/home_rec/studio.html

Here's the simplest computer-based setup:

Plug the sound sources (microphones, DI for guitar, outputs from MIDI synths) into the appropriate inputs on your mixing board.

Plug the mixer's stereo line-level Main Outputs (L-R) into the LINE IN of the computer's sound card/audio interface. Some mixers have a 2-Track output in addition to the Main Outs. Either one can be used, though in most mixers only the Main Outs are controlled by the Main Out output level fader.

Plug the LINE OUT from the computer's sound card into a line-level stereo input (or pair of channel inputs) on your mixing board. Be careful not to set up a feedback loop by routing the output of your soundcard through the mixer back to the soundcard's input!

"Plug the mixer's Control Room (or Monitor) outputs into a pair of line-level inputs on your stereo amplifier or powered speakers. (Typical line-level inputs on a stereo receiver or amplifier will be labeled "CD," "AUX" or "TUNER").

To record a track to the computer, enable the soundcard's LINE IN as the recording input in your recording software. Assign the outputs from your recording software to the soundcard's LINE OUT.

There are other ways to hook things up, but this is the most straightforward for beginners.

There are some (more expensive) computer audio interfaces that come with mic inputs and mixing controls built in. If you have one of these, you should contact their tech support for advice on how to set up your studio with their product. "

What confuses me is the second paragraph. They say to hook up my mixers outputs into the cpu's line-in. Then it says to connect the cpu's lineout to the mixer. But warns not to create a feedback loop. With this setup, I don't see how you wouldn't create a loop.

Can anyone help me with this? I am try to get the most out of my behringer 1604 and Audigy 2 Platinum.

Øh... uhm.... okay.

Here's what I would do:
Take the mixers Main Out an plug them into Line In on the Audigy. Hook your monitors up to the Line Out from the Audigy.

Then the signal chain would be:

Mic -> Mic input (mixer) -> Main Out (mixer) -> Line in (Audigy) -> Sonar -> Line Out (Audigy) -> Speakers

:)

But what I really would do is to ditch the Audigy2... :D

I see several problems with the set-up as you describe it. First it would seem to create a feedback loop. Secondly, it will re-record everything onto the new track (since you are feeding the pre-recorded tracks back to the mixer, and then feeding the mixer's main outs back to the new track. Also, if you are recording more than a single source at one time, everything will be dumped onto one track.

Generally when using a mixer you would run a cable from the Channel Inserts or Channel Direct Outs to the Sound Card. This allows you to record just that channel.

If you have just a single Line In on your sound card, you can still record two channels at a time by panning one left and one right.

i meant hook it up, some how i typed hoop. Thanks for understanding it anyway
