Is this good absorption mataterial? Pics

I have tons of this stuff and an unlimited supply, I get it in work, they are particle filters, I have it in lots of different sizes but all the same thickness, 1 inch thick. I don't have any specs or technical data for it, just hoping if anyone could say if it looks like it's good for absorbing sound. I can put this stuff in layers if needed. I have put it up to a light to show how dense/porous it is. Thanks guys.

I'm going to have to think that it's nowhere near the density required for anything substantial...

I only base that on what I normally see with these situations.
