I am thinking of purchasing the following. I offered 1000 and he accepted. Do you guys think this is a good deal? Thanks in advance!

I have a Quad G5 Powermac with 4 2.5ghz processors, 250 gig system drive and a 74 gig 10,000 RPM Raptor drive. System has 12 gig of RAM. Selling as a package with a Digidesign digi 002 that was used 2 times. Original owner, have boxes for everything. Will sell with Protools LE pre-installed as well as Final Cut Studio 2, Adobe Creative Suite 3. Large library of both audio and video plug ins. Looking for $1,100 OBO. Open to offers, but be real, I could care less if you are a poor student or working non charity, no stories, just real offers of cash payment. The RAM in this machine alone is worth a couple hundred dollars.

hmmm. ebay? could be a scam, seems really cheap.

Personally i wouldn't bother with this gear.

powermacs are out. no more support, no more updates etc etc. 12gb ram sounds great but it's probably 400mhz fsb...not that hot anymore.

What do you need...Maybe we could tailor a better deal for ya on here.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually changed my mind and offered 650 for just the comp. But now I'm starting to second guess it after what you said about the powermac's. I found this on craigslist here in Austin and actually talked to the guy and looked him up. Turns out he does audio for major touring acts, currently Lady Gaga, so I'm pretty sure he is legit.

I have a budget of 1300-1500 right now for a decent home studio. Not looking to do anything crazy. I score films, and do a lot of individual instrument recording so I don't need anything crazy. I currently work on my Macbook Pro with an M-Audio mobile-pre and Logic Express.

you have a mac book pro already??

you don't need a computer then IMO. :)
which leaves 1300-1500 for cool stuff :p lol

What do you need though. Do you record instrument at a time, live groups, groups that would need separate mics?

If you're going one or two channels at a time, i'd recommend just looking at suitable mics like akg 451s and stuff.(unless you already have some useful mics)

If you need more simultaneous channels, we'll talk about interfaces.

forgot to say, Digi 002 is a big waste of money in my opinion. Really for all the fancy ins and outs, all you're getting is four questionable mic pres that take up a lot of space.
I used to own the 003 console, and tbh i sold it because even the control element didn't justify £1300 of investment.
I replaced it with a motu 828 and a bunch of preamps for about £400.

Thanks for the info! I mainly record one thing at a time. The most at once that I will probably ever need is 4 inputs if I'm doing a drum kit etc. I do need some affordable quality mic's, a pair of good monitors, and a new interface.

There are just so many choices out there that it's tough to really find what is best. I'm probably going to stick to using Logic, so software isn't top priority.

ok that's great...

so your computer is fine, and your software is fine.

I hear you saying 4 tracks, but may i recommend looking into an 8 channel interface?

From what i've seen, they are a lot more common than 4 channel, plus it gives you extra room just incase :)

I had a good experience with the presonus firepod (fp10), and there are more like it out there from different manufacturers. (google 8 channel firewire interface/8 channel usb interface)

have a search and see what you come up with :)

As fas as mics and monitors, you'd be better of reading threads where other people have asked for advice.
This forum's full of "which is the best **** for doing ****?" so your needs have probably been covered, and sure, if you don't find what you want, just come back and ask :)

Best of luck.
