Is this a fair price?

Well, you can get the bass for $179 new, figure the case was $60-$70, the pedals being DOD were probably $50 apiece.

Personally, I think it's a bit steep. I, however, am fairly merciless when it comes to used gear. See if he'll take an offer. :)

Thanks.

I'm a beginner, but I'm not in the market for garbage. I'll keep looking.

I'm a beginner at bass. I'd like something that will sound good on recordings (meaning that if it sounds bad it's not the instrument's fault :) ). I play a lot of folk, rock, and electronic music. I just want something solid that I can learn on and use in the studio.

Thanks,
Peter

i always question the intent of the seller, especially on ebay or web sites that cant straight forward type the actual brand name of the instrument first. It seem as though they think if they state, "fender", or "gibson" then here comes the key word..........."style", that they will somehow trick someone into thinking it is actually that brand.

that paticular bass guitar is a "austin" brand, that looks like a fender P. I also think DOD pedal are really cheap now so figure no more than $100-$125 for the bass guitar, maybe $20 bucks a peice for the pedals, and the case is really nominal. Yeah it may have a value, but really when you take your guitar to trade at the music store they will not usually even consider the case as having value, unless it is a exact matching case that goes with the guitar, and that is a maybe. used pedals dont have much value at all in the market place due to new technology.

My estimate would be including shipping (for the whole package)would be $150 total. no more. just my opinion.

the actual fender squire basses that cost about the same price as the one you were looking at do a pretty good job for a starter, put some new strings on it and your set. I played a squire bass on stage for years just cause i wanted to prove a point that you didnt have to have the best equipment to sound and play good. it worked great for years, nice action, and good tone. had no problems with it, and the bst part is i could beat on it and really put on a show without worrying about ruining a expensive bass.

sorry to ramble. good luck
