Is this a cool "riff?" Help me out here...

This is a 35 second sample of a "riff" that I cant decide on whether to keep it or toss it.
I think its really really cool, has a great drive to it, but it reminds me more of something you would hear on a movie or video game than an actual song, and it MIGHT not fit my normal stuff, which could be good, or bad.
Also, where it stops is where I ran out of ideas. I have absolutely no idea where to take this song, and I have tried for days now to come up with the next "part", which I guess would be the 1st verse.
Take a listen, tell me if its a keeper, IYO, and if you have ideas of where to take it, feel free to express it. I'm stumped for some reason on this one.
Its all rough tracked, and I think I have the worst mp3 encoder on the planet, so.... whatever...
Let me know if you like it and make any suggestions you feel like making.

By the way, the dry guitar sound is one of the new e609 Silvers into an RNP straight to disk.
Its not a real bright mic at all, but I like it so far. Bass is straight into an RNP D.I. to disk... not much messing with tones for this at all, just wanted to get some ideas.
 
I dunno, man...it's not making me clutch the back of my chair while the hairs stand up on my arms, but I'm not real awake. I also don't know much about anything.

I'd let it break down into some kind of a "chuka-chuka" guitar part for the verses, but you should really read my comment about me not knowing stuff before you pay too much attention to this post.

Dig, thats the kinda shit I need to know. A few of those and its tossed.
I think its got a cool drive to it though. Kinda reminds me of some Nickleback now that I think about it.
Not sure what you mean about where to go with it though.

Perfect Example might be "Hard To Swallow." (Nickleback). The verses of that have that "chucka-chucka" sound I'm thinking about.

BTW - You're nuts if you're thinking about ditching this b/c of what some dicks on a BBS say. The riff obviously hit you, and that's all that matters...you just need to give it some more context. To me, it's not hitting me like "Limelight" did the first time I heard it, or "Times Like These" by the Foo Fighters, but I heard the whole songs to go with the riffs, lol.
 
I think it can be the start of something beautiful...keep it and work on it...come back when it rocks...:)

Does that mean I cant come back til it does? That might be never.... maybe I should let Sluice have it for a day :)

...cool groove tube. It was really interesting to hear bass through the rnp (Im in the market of a new pre). .....sounds real nice! ...Nickelback is a good model for this. I could also hear the tune going into a "bass only" verse.

I was bored, so I made my own version of your riff... Who knows, maybe it'll inspire you. There's no bass, and I only spent 15 mins on it.

I thought it was cool enough to build off of. Don't ditch it. My vote anyway.
 
I like it. I also have to agree with Guernica that this would be a cool bass only verse riff and what you have for guitar to me sounds like a kick ass chorus. I think your onto something good here.
 
Guess I'll keep working on it, I'll post something more when I come up with it and see what everyone thinks. I just dont want it to lose the drive it feels like it has to me.
Anyone else have ideas on where to take this?

I think it would be better to have the bass & rythtym guitar playing the same riff in unison. The bass riif is cool, but I thought the guitar riff on top was a bit too busy/distracting and took away from the bass riff.

Think RATM, Audioslave.....

Yeah it's got a couple "cools". There is a lot of good stuff to work with here. I didn't write any further, but if you want an idea of what it might sound like, drop an octave and play the verse with hard chugging and pinch harmonics.

You're probably better off taking suggestions from someone like Jcmm. I'm not really a straight up rock kind of dude. Good luck!

It's not bad. I liked linchpins take on it. Something in between there might be cool. I liked that bass tone.
