I just got my tascam us-800 audio interface and it sounds the same as the blue icicle to me. You guys think i need to buy something else to it ? or did i do something wrong im very confused. Is it because i dont have my studio monitors setup yet ? Also my mic input volume wont increase even when i turn the knob up.

What are you using to monitor now?

Headphones?

What mic are you using with the Tascam? Does it need phantom power? Are you using an XLR > XLR cable with your mic?

When you say not increasing the volume where are you talking about? On the Tascam or in software?

Im using an XLR cable Mic; AT2035 , Headphones BEATS by Dr.Dre , Monitors: KRK g2 5's

On the tascam the volume wont increase.

What volume won't increase? What knob?

I am confused what it is you are asking here man. Give a bit more detailed description. I'm sure one of us can get it figured. :D

My xlr mix is plugged into the 2nd instrument input. When i move the knob with the 2 above it to increase mic volume nothing happens

Did it come with a manual and have you read it ? You're extremely vague.

Yes it did, and yes i've read it. No info on why it wont increase
I think the question wasn't to expect that bit exactly.. C: But now how about try some other stuff? Different mic, different jack, the other input.. does anything work?

..and it sounds the same as the blue icicle to me
BTW, two diff fairly clean pres/converters, they souldn't sound very different at all.

INST in , and if its going to sound the same why did i purchase this. alot of poeple said it would sound different

Turn the phantom power on to power the mic.

You need an XLR > XLR mic cable and you need to use the XLR inputs into the Tascam.

The Tascam should sound better than the Icicle but you probably won't notice the difference until you put about 10 tracks or more together with each and hear the difference for yourself.

Plus, the Tascam obviously has more I/O. Maybe you don't need it at the moment but more I/O is always better than not enough.

I have an XLR > XLR cable , Phantom Power on. THe only problem is that the knobs dont raise mic volume

Then either the phantom power isn't working, the cable is bad, the mic has an open somewhere, or you are turning up the gain on the wrong channel.

Does the mic and cable work with the Icicle?

Do you get any response AT ALL from the AT when patched through the Tascam?

If not that points to the phantom power being kaput on the Tascam.

Have you tried all the mic inputs on the Tascam?

Yupp , Perfect the phantom power works because the light is on and i can talk through the mic might be because i havent tried the back inputs yet
