Trick is in the programming
It's kinda easy to find samples of real drums... They got em all over the web, some places sell the sampled kits, and you can even pull em from almost and cd or record.
The trick is really in the programming though. The MPC is the maybe the dopest sampling drum machine you can find ($1200 new). Find the right samples and program em right and you can create some pretty real sounding drums tracks. It''d be a real bitch if you're not really familiar with programming drums like that but it can be done.
If I really want a real sounding drum track then i'll bust up a breakbeat using RECYCLE. From there i'll either create different versions of the break and save the different loops with slight changes in em or... Pull about 4 kicks, 4 snares, 4 hats, etc out of a break. Drop em in the MPC and try my best to prgogram em to sound like a real drumkit and drummer playing. I never dig very deep into the MPC programming route but get good results from just covering the basics. Always get good results when using the loops but I never make enough changes in the loops to create a really good live drummer effect.
