Is there any NO MIXER home recording studio ?

I have a digital mixer; a Yamaha O1V. Its sole purpose in the studio is to act as a control surface for my DAW. I don't use its pre's, or any of its effects. I use outboard gear for that, and the ocassional plug-in.
I could easily swap the O1V out for a dedicated control surface, and in that regard it wouldn't be a true "mixerless" studio, but its close.
At any rate, you need something to control levels at mixdown and route signals. Whether you do that with software or hardware is up to you, so I guess you never really get away from a mixer, you just limit its conventional role.

You could get away with just a software mixer, but you'll need to mix somehow.

Most of my recording doesn't involve a hardware mixer, but I'd be lost without the built in s/w mixers in Cubase, Acid, and Reason...

My studio has no external hardware mixer, and I love it.

I use the mixer in my computer interfaces (two Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96) for monitoring during recording, and the mixer in my software (Sonar) for the main mixing task.

I *do* have a control surface (Mackie Control) - it has motorized faders, etc., and makes using Sonar wonderfully easy. No sound is actually routed through it though, so its not a mixer - just kinda looks like one. Its much easier to use than just a keyboard and mouse - it has sped up my workflow greatly.

motu has the cuemix dsp. all you need is the sound card. you can mix your monitors in the hardware without taxing your cpu. i do use a mixer, more or less as a patchbay though, not for mixing.

currently English is the number 1 language on the net BUT it has been predicted that in the next 5 - 10 years Chinese will be the dominating language - remember there are 1.4 billion chinese and computers are everywhere - They make the fuckers!!.

I just a everyman in China , I have two computers , all of my friends have one or two computers . Computers is cheap and easy to buy in China .

I am free to use internet , 2MB bandwidth , no time limit .

In China , hold gun is illegal , will be condemned to at least 4 years prison .

I have no mixer . I found the audio quality of mixer is worse than computer interface or convertor .
