I have an old digitech dsp256. It was made in the late 80's early 90's. It seems to dirty the signal a bit. Is it just old tech, or junk?
Has anyone ever heard of an upgrade?

Just a foolish Question:)

AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO,

not a 256 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, does this thing bring back memories....I still must have the remote somewhere.

Ok serious.Go to the backyard and dig a hole about 20 feet deep. Put on protected clothes on wear gloves. Now gently pick up the unit and walk backwards out of the frontdoor. Actually make that the backdoor. Make sure nobody sees you. Now ungently throw the unit in the predigged hole. Go to the garage and get about 10 gallons of gasoline.....you get the point.

The only upgrade for this machine is heaven.

I will try to type what my former DSP256 sounded like :

SHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHS

I believe they've even made a 128.

Now I'm not ditching (?) Digitech, I myself still own a S400 although I rarely use it. I think if I dig deep in the studiocabinets there must be laying a kind of guitarprocessor from digi somewhere. (I remember something with yellow and a 256 like housing) It's one of those units that's found its way to our studio during some session and never found its way out. Damn, why doesn't that ever happen with a Neve or Neumann.

Hey! I've got an Idea

Mabey If I hold on to it for 20 more years It will come back like The big muff or tape delays. I have the box, the remote, the foot controller and there's not a scratch on the unit. I have not been using it in recording but I do use it live. Oh well mabey a carelessly spilled beer will wipe it out someday and I can get a lexicon.

Thanks for the reply

Good idea, keep it boxed for at least 20 years. It probably will be more worth than it is now. No kidding !

I don't know about the 256, but I've got an ancient gsp 5 that sucks quite abit. Page Hamilton from Helmet used to use one so I'm going to hang on to it just to say that I have the same thing Page Hamilton has.

Where was ART??

You know I bought this thing right before ART hit the market and blew this thing away for the same or less money, but I guess that is the nature of electronics.

Now I kick my self in the ass as I am buying a new computer rather than wait till later.

I will wait till DVD players are $75.00 to buy one......:)

I have a DSP-128 that I still use in my guitar rig. I would imagine that the 256 sounds pretty similar...which isn't necessarily a good thing!

Well it was worth a shot:)

I guess it is time to look for an 18 year old kid to sell this thing to. It is such a pitty. There it sits gleaming in the artificial lighting, Just like new. My first love, the DSP256.

All good things must come to an end. Wish I still lived with my parents so I had another $1000.00 to blow.

Those where the days...........

Not really:)
