I'm trying to find out if I can automate my "vocal track"'s so that the singer can sound like he/she is singing at the same volume the entire track. Sorry, I'm not good at explaining things. Maybe someone will know what i'm trying to say. Thanks..

You're talking about compression. There are dozens of compressor plug-ins out there...

Re leveler

If you have Soundforge (you are in the sonic foundry pages) then you could try using the built in 'normaliser' which allows you to select an average RMS wave level and process the whole track so it sounds equally loud at all points, then use the peak function to make it as loud as possible, but any background noise will be amplified as well.

Nope, that's not right, reflex kid... Normalizing is different; it brings the sample amplitudes up so that the highest-amplitude sample is at 0 dB (or whatever max level you set for normalizing) and then raises all the other amplitudes by the same scaling factor. This just makes the sound louder overall but does nothing to smooth out the all the volume inconsistencies in a performance the way a compressor does.

Wave Hammer

Sound Forge 6.0 has Wave Hammer in the Tools menu and it is a form of compression. I beleive there is a vocal present that will assist you in leveling you erratic vocal tracks. There is no substitue for good microphone technique and appropriate compression, but this might help.

Gook Luck

Do you want to assign volume changes on the vocal track?

Let us know exactly what you want to do. ;)
