Is there a program that emulates a bass guitar?

Hi all,

To complete my recordings I need to add a bass track. I have no desire to purchase a bass guitar. Any software programs out there that I could use to emulate a bass guitar? My keyboard doesn't seem to sound authenic enough.

Is there such a program?

If your keyboard is midi and your soundcard has an onboard synth, you could do the bass with a midi bass sound....if you have a Soundblaster card, you could use soundfonts(I think)....If your software uses VST plugins, there are several VST plugins that are "virtual instruments".....

I was in the exact same boat once. The answer is that yeah you can do bass guitar in any MIDI/looping software....but it will not sound real.

I ended up buying a pawn shop bass for $100, and a SansAmp Bass DI box for $120. If you're looking for *realistic* bass, and it sounds like you are, then you really have to buy a real bass, you'll just have to bite the bullet.

I suppose you could try a pitch shifting plugin and use your regular guitar for bass. One guy here used to do that and it sounded pretty good.

Good luck.

Thanks guys,

I think I will try the pitch plugin first. I was wondering what I would ever use that plugin for.

If that doesn't work I suppose I will buy a real one.

THe VST instrument sounded cool also. I have cubase, but never used it. I'll try that after the pitch plugin.

Thanks.

Yeah, I just use an octave effect with one of my electrics. It takes some tweaking, but it sounds pretty good. I wouldn't try to bust out any Primus or funk or anything like that, but for rock where the bass is not "in-your-face", the octave works great.
