Is there a manual (mouse click) way to on/off in sequencers?

I'm a mic-up guy and am curious about sequencers and midi. Do these programs, like Cubase/Cakewalk etc, have a manual way to enter notes into a sequencer, rather than having a remote keyboard to enter on/off?
Some software drum machines have sequencers that activate their notes with a mouse click. Are sequnces in these programs the same? Or do they only work by midi keyboard?

Yup. Piano roll in Cubase, and I'm sure there are other similar things in other programs.

Yup...there are piano rolls, drum lanes and many more. but work will be much more longer and exhausting if u are going to write the notes using the pencil tool.
