What are the key differences in the Cubase 5.1 and the cubase sx?

I am wondering because i want to get cubase as my midi sequencer, but with sx out, 5.0/5.1 is cheaper...if the differences are not huge, then i may as well go with the earlier...

Well, Flick, I wish I had good news for you, but...

SX is almost entirely different and in most ways much, much better than 5.1.

Great news for Cubase users with a little cash, but bad news for the lean pocket. You might look in to Cubase SL- a "light" version of SX.

The sound engine of SX is better than 5.1, though VST 5.1 still sounds fine. SX has a more efficient layout and workflow, but (again) 5.1 works, too. SX (though not SL) comes with some fancy tape saturation emulators and high quality dithering, but you can get them with VST/32, as well.

In my opinion, the mix automation works better in SX, as well. I dunno. I like SX a lot better, but I'm kinda a gadget guy and SX has lots of fun stuff to keep me busy.

Your call. VST/32 is an excellent program, while SX is makings some major waves in the semi-pro arena. (shrug.)

Take care,
Chris
