That's about the top of my price range right about now, and it looks like a pretty good MIDI keyboard to me. I'm not looking for anything terribly advanced or fancy, so this one seems right up my alley. I've been reading a few mixed reviews about this thing, though, even though the reviews are mainly good. What do you think of this product? And in your opinion, may there be a better 61-key MIDI keyboard in the general price range?

I have been on a search for a quality MIDI controller for a couple YEARS now. I have owned an oxygen 8, an Axiom 61 (1st generation) an Axiom PRO 61, a novation sl MK-2 and a Studiologic vmk 161 plus organ. In my opinion the oxygen lines are not great. To be blunt they are crap. They feel like they cost, which is cheap. While the studiologic was built like a tank, it wasn't conducive to my style. I prefer a semi weighted/heavy synth action. Think ASR-10 keys. So far the best of these would have been the novation had it worked properly. And I probably would have bought it again had I not talked to a friend who had the exact issue as me and he returned his to receive yet another one with the same issue. The joystick was unresponsive to pitchbend. The keys felt perfect, yet the rest of the board felt cheap. While the axioms feel decent, sturdy and get the job done, they just don't have that rugged tank feel like it will last forever. I am currently considering buy a Kurzweil pc3 just to use as a controller...I don't understand why in this day and age where everyone making music w/software using controllers a company doesn't make a serious controller. The axiom Pro with the novation sl mk-2 keys would be a winner...for me anyway. Hope that helps. I would recommend you pick up a used axiom.

Hm... I'm always wary of buying a used electrical instrument. I'll see if I can get a better one than the oxygen, though; I've heard it works, but I've also heard it breaks, and that would be horrible. If the Axiom is more sturdy, I'll get it instead just for that even if I gotta save up for longer. I want something that works and won't break quickly or easily.

But wow, years? That's crazy. I thought I was doing it for a long time by looking for months now.
