Is the Digitech GNX3 the greatest guitar processor out right now?

I ready to trade in all my stomp boxes for an all in one unit.
I think I'm going to buy that digitech GNX3. Oh man, it has a jam man looper built in with an 8 track 24 bit recorder built in and an envelope filter in it. I am drooling like a dog!
Can anyone come up with a better processor than this????

...ok, I give up...what's with the P and the J?...you guys can't possibly be talkin bout somim illegal in most states.

POD (I assume) and J-Station. I've played through both and they are both great.

I don't know anything about the GNX3. But the J only costs about $150.00. For that price I think it's very hard to beat.

But hey, You've got ears.

hmmm... NO!

Lexicon is the greatest

followed by rocktron
POD
Johnson
even Roland

Digitech

Actually, try Digitech RP20 (an older one)... He's got it all. And although it's not a modeler like the POD, its "pre-amps" sure sound hell cool! I own a Boss GT-3 myself and I like it, but it's broken, so my local shop fixed me with a Digitech RP-7 for the time being. Although it lacks deeper editing functions (where the GT-3 excels in its priceclass), it sounds great and its response and dynamics are very good. The GT-3 seems on the slower side sometimes, with all the AD/DA conversioning goin' on.
My shop had the RP-20 for $390!!!(2nd handed, but still, it used to cost over $1200 4 years ago...)

I had the RP-20 (or maybe ot was the RP-18) for a little while and it is a good unit. It even has ducking!

SansAmp

No effects, but the best tone.

If you want lots of fru-fru effects to cover up crappy tone, get one of the others.

Lopp, I agree with the Sansamp (PSA-1 certainly) but you hafta try the RP-20! Those pre-amp sounds (a 12AX7 is used, as well as SS circuitry) are really cool. And like I said, the response is phenomenal, when compared to a 'sluggish' Boss GT-3, and even the POD looses when it comes to dynamics and punch. I rehearsed today with a band. There were 2 Line6 Flextone II combo's. The other guitarist used some pedals (tube screamer e.a.) and he had more punch. I used the Brit Hi Gain and the Modern Hi Gain settings (we did Janet Jackson's "Black Cat") and although those sounds sound cool at first sight, you'll notice that it will sound 'hollow' and it 'stays in the amp' when you play with a band.
Sure the Line6 has its uses, but not totally suited for band gigging...

Hmm. Isn't the RP-20 similar to the 2120?
I had one of those and wasn't particularly impressed with my tone when compared to my GT2 and my Boogie Quad. Maybe they improved the tones after I got rid of my 2120.

fru fru effects, that's a good one.

I have a JStation and it rocks. Though I have to say that the guys of Digitech are the same guys that develop the GNX3. It seems that both companies have a financial relationship with Hartman, who surely owns Digitech and I guess (but I'm not sure) has something on Johnson Amplification. They also own Lexicon, go figure.
All this means that maybe they'll switch there effort more to Digitech products.

Cheers, Andrés

well, I guess you all can't get as good as the GNX3

Well, I've read all your posts and none of your processors can even come close to the GNX3, built in Jam man, built in drum machine, 24 bit, 8 track recorder built in, envelope filter and a ton of other effects, some new ones as well, amp modelling gallore,
what more can I ask for in an All In One Unit????????

Seems like some of you were concerned about price. The GNX3 is $499. That's a pretty good deal considering all the loaded features. I'de say I'm right on track to getting the best processor out there. Anyone disagree????????
Show me a more loaded processor!

Weatherbill, you're making the BIG Classic Mistake: Getting impressed by tons of (useless) features.
If you really want the Genetix hypermodel-warping, go buy a Genesis 3, but IMHO the 8 track recorder of the GNX3 is worthless.
The sole reason to buy a floorboard is TONE. And frankly, I have played:
-POD
-Boss GT-3
-Boss GT-6
-Boss ME-30
-Digitech RP-7
-Digitech RP-20
-Flextone II
-Hughes and Kettner Zentera
-Line6 Vetta

and the only ones that stand out are the RP20 and the Zentera, but the latter is a $2000 amp.

The RP20 will probably sound way more useful than the GNX3,
a)it uses a tube in the pre-amp section
b)its internal paths are more analog than the GNX3

Try it for yourself: try to loan a POD or GT-3, play on it for like a month. Then try plugging your guitar directly in a quality tube amp. And then try the RP20. First word that will come to your mind (after great tone) is "response".
The POD and GT-3 lack it more. And the GNX probably will too will all the AD/DA conversions going on.

speeddemon's right. FX don't mean crap if it counds like crap.

I have a Yamaha DG-Stomp, which I tried at the same time as the J-Station and POD. It has less models than either of those, but IMO it sounded better, so I got it.

Listen to all of these and get the one you like best. I never liked the Digitech stuff, but admittedly haven't tried anything new, so...

Just don't buy something because it has more effects or built in marketing gimmicks.

Well , like all above said, features don't mean crap....

the best isn't the most... as with all things in life... less features means more quality in the things you DO have... (think about your girlfriend... less could be more.. ;)...:D:D )a POD if you want to record... WTF is up with that eight track recorder being in there? that's non-sense!

GNX3 is definately NOT even close to the best shit out there, and I've tried just about everything out there.GN has some cool clean sounds but the Distortion is paper thin as with all digitech effect units. So far the POD is the best I've heard overall. Its got some thick, juicy, meaty, tasty OD sounds great for recording with. Go play one and see for yourself.

I've had the GNX3 since January. It wouldn't be my choice for live gigging, but as a recording tool it's versitle as hell.

I get good tone from duncans and a Marshall 602. The parameters and tailorability of the GNX give believable effects without suprises.

Best $350 I've spent this year.

Correction: I've got a GNX2.

Tweekable reverbs, delays, amps, on and on.

It's got some pretty lame presets like "auto riff" which sounds like an lp being spun in revrse! :D

Anyaway, cool tool for the money.
