Hello All,

I am currently using a yamaha MD8 for tracking and want to move up to a DAW.

Do you recommend starting with Sonar, Guitar tracks Pro or Home Studio 2002 or something else for starters.

(I am thinking to just get the learning curve over with)

advice/recommendations ?

Thanks
Pier Calacino

Home Studio will cover the same learning curve ground as Sonar and will treat your wallet better. If you upgrade to Sonar later, you should be able to use your Home Studio files. I recommend HS over Guitar Studio because it has midi, GS does not. Some people may not agree, but midi still has its place. Also, midi will allow you to sync Cakewalk with a hard disk recorder or ADAT.
The Cakewalk website has a breakdown of features found in Sonar, Home Studio and Guitar Studio.

There a features comparison of HS and Sonar here:
http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/HS/HS02-vs-SONAR.html

I have only used Sonar, and am not familiar with Home Studio, but in looking it over this feature list, the key difference to me seems to be the ability to record from more than one stereo input. If you are doing everything yourself (or if your sound card has just one stereo input connection), then HS seems to be the way to go for the price. Most of the other differences seem fairly trivial (although I will admit that I don't know what "professional midi editing" means).

HS2002 doesn't have "Groove Quantizing" like Sonar :( I kinda miss that feature sometimes.
