is roland vs 200 ok for mastering???

hi ive just recorded an album on the roland vs 2000 portastudio, and im wondering if the mastering tools are good enough for a professional final sound. i recorded my last album on a pc with protools and the brought it to a mastering studio, and it sounded infinitely better than my original mixes. even my early rough mixes with the roland have sounded good, but can i get it as good as a mastering studio, with the vs 2000?

No....... the first issue has nothing to do with the tools you have - it has to do with the fact that you have no objectivity to analyze the sonic quality of your mixes, since you're the one that tracked and mixed them.

So you created your mix based on how you want it to sound.... so how can you now use the same tools/listening space/ears to decide where/what sonic shaping is needed on the mix you just created, making it already sound the way you wanted?

2nd issue - the VS2000 might be a usable all-in-one recorder/mixer, but it is not a mastering tool in any conventional sense.

Just for point 1 alone, you'd actually probably get better results letting a friend of yours "master" it for you, rather than doing it yourself....

But don't take my word for it - try it yourself and see - if you end up with an overall sound that you're happy with, then you're done!
