okay,

i've got a "SoundMax Digital Audio" card that came pre-installed with the new computer. i've got mixer output going into a 1/8" stereo y-cable and then into my 'line-in' on the computer. it sounds fine coming across the computer speakers; however, i listen to the recorded playback and it's just atrocious. you can barely hear it; it's static, etc.

i look at the soundcard properties and the advanced tab on the recording options is greyed out? (i use winxp). anyone experience this before? anyone got a suggestion? is this soundcard good enough for recording?

try lowering the level you are going into the card with...going in with a level over 0db will cause distortion, even if you cant hear it while you are recording.....

hopefully, the software you are using has metering...use it...if your software doesnt have metering get some...

not the best meters, but close enuff......
